Fragment of Taiwan's colonial history
Jan 2020
People whose memories of Taiwan go back around 30 years will recall the old Taipei Train Station, which dated from the Japanese colonial period (1895-1945) The Hsinchu Train Station also dates from the colonial Japanese era. It has a strong resemblance to the Taipei Train Station, which was demolished many years ago. Although the Hsinchu Train Station has (so far) been spared, it is hardly state of the art and travelers need to keep their wits about them when they are using it. This is not the station for the HSR.

Photogenic building
Sep 2019 • Solo
I was purely interested in the Hsinchilu Station for the architecture and photo opportunity. Built in Japanese style from 1900's (similar style to Tokyo Station, just smaller). Good for a quick walk by and photo

A historic station at the center of the city!
May 2019 • Solo
The station is a renovated old building, possibly can date back to the Japanese occupying period (about 100 years ago). There’s a square right in front of the main gate, and occasionally some activities are held there. Like many others, the train station is at the center of the city and thus worthy of a visit.

Has a 7-11 in the station for tourists to buy some snacks and drinks. Traditional Taiwanese bento is available too, try it!

Nice Architecture

Hsinchu main train station. Can transfer here to get to many other places such as a train to Taipei. Not too far from the station you can also take a coach that goes to Taipei. Also many taxis close to the station.
The station is a good size. Pretty easy to buy a ticket for English speakers/Travellers by using the machines. The Architecture is beautifully made.

Beautiful architecture

This railway station is the oldest station, which is still in use, in Taiwan. The construction is dated from Japanese governing time, and that is why its shape is similar to Tokyo station.

Very impressive

Slick, fast, rule bound, and efficient, this station makes you realize why Taiwan is such a first world country (especially as compared with the declining US infrastructure. Very pleasant ride to Taipei even if you have to stand up the whole way.

The outside of the station has gotten some work done!

This is one of the main train stations in Hsinchu. If you get off at the Hsinchu main station you are able to get a taxi easily, and also in the back, you can get to a bus depot. It's right downtown so it's easy to find some places to eat and shop. The thing I love about the train station is that it has kept its charming historic building. Lots of things in Taiwan get torn down and you get new and more modern things....which is always nice but it's always nice to see history and actually appreciate how things used to be.
