I like this park. It provides some quiet respite from the bustling, busy, noisy streets of Chiayi. I visited on a weekday and the park was practically empty save for a few older people. The trees offer some shade from sun and seating areas within the park are aplenty. The park was built during the Japanese administration of Taiwan, The Chiayi Historical Records Museum, a wooden building built in Japanese architectural style, was once part of the Kagi Shrine.
The Chiayi Tower, or Sun-Shooting Tower, is, at 62 metres tall, the showpiece of the park. The design of the exterior of the tower is based an a sacred tree found in Alishan, the interior has has 24 metre bronze sculpture based on some indigenous beliefs. There is an observation deck and small shop selling food and drinks at the top, but was closed during my visit there (plenty of 'small-eats all around the outside of the park though).
The park is set up nicely for those who would come here to exercise. The paths are flat for running and there was certainly a lack of people on the day i was here.
As i alluded to earlier, its a nice park.....if you are in Chiayi preparing yourself to go to Alishan and have a few hours to spare then come here.

We visited here 3 days ago. We went to Sun shooting tower but was closed. Then we strolled and got to this park. This is wide and many locals come here to stroll and exercise. If you strolling around and want to breathe fresh air, this is the right place for you.

Beautiful day! The park is quite large, well maintained and kept. Various elements to enjoy. The tower is a nice place to view the city from above.

"Today" (Nov. 13th) I visited; Chiayi Park which also includes, beside the park & Chiayi Tower, also known as Sun-shooting Tower,
Chiayi Metropolitian Forest, Chiayi Arboretum & Shanzihding Botanical Garden. It also includes a Confucian Temple & a
Relics Museum which I will see later. I spent a good four hours wandering around here amongst Taiwanese walkers & I'm not done.
A myth of the Sun-shooting Tower is;
John loves botanical gardens. He prefers flowers, conifers & evergreens. Seen here (in the photos) are an un-named evergreen,
a few tree flowers, green leaves, hoop pines (member of the Araucaria family, which I love them all) & garden views.

Beautiful botanical gardens and a pleasant walk through the trees in the middle of Chiayi. Plenty of places to grab a beer or cup of coffee and relax.

What a gem of a park. So many great things to see from arches to old trees, to water features to Japanese architecture--and a fantastic Sun Shooting Tower viewpoint.

Since I stayed at Nice Prince hotel, I tried to go to Chiayi Park by foot. Actually, it was not really good idea, even though it's fall in Taiwan. The current weather is too hot for walking, I walked around 10 am to 12 am. There was also not so many people walking down the street. It's better to use bike or taxi. But, since I've already done that, I continued to see what's around.
It's Saturday, but still not so many people there. Mostly, they used sport suite and do some sports, saw so many elders exercise and practicing dance.
It's a good place to visit with family, some spots are good enough to be captured. Very calm, and there was some sport area for badminton, streching, and relaxing (gazebo).
Just in case, you want to go to the bathroom, don't forget to bring tissues. Since, there's no tissue in the toilet 😢.

Chiayi Park is like an oasis in city. On the top of a hill, there are many things: a tower, a baseball ground, a Confucius temple, a museum and so on. The entrance is free. It is a nice place to take a walk.

This park is well worth a visit if you are looking to relax. In particular there is a stunning wooden building built by the Japanese, and currently operating as a type of museum. Unfortunately, there is no interps in English, but it is hard not to be impressed by the building itself (and it’s free to get in). We didn’t go up the tower, but it is well impressive from the outside.
Worth an hour of down time.

If you're sick of the concrete, head over to Chiayi Park for a relaxing stroll. It's a chill place to kill an hour or two on a hot sunny day. There are plenty of statues and features to keep you occupied while you wander about. It's a fun afternoon. Make sure to grab a tea beforehand.
