Impressive temple commemorates legendary physician
Jan 2019 • Couples
This large temple honors Bao Sheng Dadi, or 'the life protection emperor.' It was built in 1701, making it one of the oldest temples in Taiwan. The Ren Wu Temple is connected to the troops of Koxinga. They found the site an auspicious place for a temple and dedicated it to this legendary physician from the Sung Dynasty. Koxinga was a Ming Dynasty loyalist. He opposed the the Manchus, who formed the foreign Ching Dynasty. This colorful temple is impressive, with the interior carvings showing a high level of skill The temple is still in daily use. Locals say it is more efficacious to visit Ren Wu Temple during the day.
