Some 150 years old temple
Feb 2021
Dating back to 1873, It was originally a temple of Chinese Fasting Religion (齋教, believers worship Buddha and follow strict vegetarian fasting diet, but they were not tonsured to be monks or nuns).

Then it was transformed to be a Buddhist temple since 1937. Now it is a branch of Fagushan (Dharma Drum Mountain).

There is an elegant Sanheyuan- a main hall and two side wings, with a stunning courtyard and garden. Current brick constructed buildings were built in 1912, and has been recognized as a City Heritage.

One of Taiwan's oldest Buddhist monasteries
Feb 2020
Zhaiming Temple is unusual because it is a Buddhist monastery, not just a temple. It is over 150 years old, founded during the Ching Dynasty, before the Japanese colonial era (1895-1945). The monastery has a statue of Guanyin, the goddess of mercy. During the weekend, the nuns serve tea and coffee, and free vegetarian food -- make whatever donation you consider appropriate. The monastery is included in Taiwan's top 100 religious sites. The aim of the monastery is "To uplift the character of humanity and build a pure land on earth." By the way, the monastery has a museum attached which may be of interest.
