The refuge of the old President
Aug 2020
Daxi Old Town is in Taoyuan County. It was once the holiday place of Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek, the old President of the Republic of China on Taiwan. The Old Town is very interesting, it is well worth taking a stroll around, and perhaps picking up a few bargains.

Wonderful town
Jul 2019
Dasi is a really great place to visit. You can have a very different experience from the city. In Dasi, there is unique architecture which is from the Japanese occupation period and the Dasi old street is famous. Dasi also is one of the Taiwan top ten towns for sightseeing. The only disadvantage is always full of people in the weekend. This time I participated in an annually festival called "DaxiDaxi" in summer. It was really spectacular and worth it.

Town goes back a long way
Feb 2020
Dasi is a regional centre, with most architecture in the old town dating from the Japanese colonial period (1895-1945)., Although there has been some reconstruction since, Dasi is best known for these old structures.. Dasi was, for many years, officially a "town.". Now it is part of the municipality of Taoyuan. There is a very good park, officially "Zhongzhung Park," looking out over the river. Dasi is best known for its connection with Taiwan's former leader, President Chiang Kai-shek, who had a holiday house overlooking the river. There is some talk that Chiang's quaint old house will be demolished. I hope not, Dasi would lose part of its heritage..

Cool buildings but not much else
Nov 2019
Xinan Old Street is the quieter of the two old streets that still have the shells of 1920's era structures that gives the entire area a retro vibe. It would be nice if the street was pedestrian only as the traffic constantly going through the narrow street makes it difficult to look at things leisurely.

Historical...but
Dec 2017 • Family
The streets are historical, but closer look you will noticed most are heavily rebuilt, there are local produce-namely tofu but you will notice its really nothing too special.(basically you can get the same thing right through Taiwan)

Scenery from the park next to the old town is "ok" , very over developed

Reflection of the Past
Jan 2018 • Friends
The old town of Daxi in Tao Yuan preserves the antique view of the 60s & 50s. Narrow streets with shops selling typical local food stuffs. Despite of their own shop lot, traders still put up stalls in front of the shop to attract visitors. If you are in town, you must try their famous dried Tou-Fu products, which locally called: "Dou Gan".

A Walk back in time
Jun 2017
Dasi's old street is as if you are back in Taiwan before the so called modern times happened. It is a quaint little street with all kind of traditional shops and eating places from yesteryear. If you go on a weekend, there is even live entertainment on the little square overlooking the river below.Next to the square is a beautiful old temple;Walk down the stairs to towards the river and cross the bridge to the other side. A lovely walkabout.Don't forget your camera as this is a real little gem.Don't miss the temple on the main street. And browse the little alley ways to see how the other half lives.I have taken many friends from abroad to Dasi and they loved the old time feeling of the town. And the home style foods.

Cool market
Nov 2016
There is a really cool day market and night market here and the riverside is really nice. At night, there is often live music and lots of activity in the area.
