Datun Mountain is a dormant volcano located in Yangming Shan National Park. It's cone shaped., The hike to the top is quite steep. Datun Mountain is 1092 metres (3,600 feet) tall. Datun Mountain gives a wide field of vision, the view over Taipei is quite spectacular at night.

Datun Mountain is a dormant volcano. It is not extinct, Datun Mountain may return to life one day, a long time in the future. Mt Datun is cone shaped, similar to Japan's Mt Fuji, though the shape of Datun Mountain is not as picturesque as Mt Fuji. Datun Mountain is 1092 meters (3,600 feet tall). Getting to the peak is quite a scramble, but the view is well worth it. From the peak, you can look out over the Taipei metropolitan area, and the mouth of the Tamshui River. Datun Mountain is in Yang Ming Shan National Park

The hiking trail from the parking lot number 1 to the summit was relentless with not particularly interesting views. It opens up on the middle but then closes again into a somewhat unpleasant and muddy area.

The views at the end were really great and made me want to hike the south and west peak. They look much more promising. Walking back down via the motor road was more pleasant if not particularly unique.

I still prefer seven star mountain!
