Awesome Temple!
Feb 2020
Visited this very large and beautiful temple during the CNY celebrations; it was an exciting place to visit, and truly lovely. Definitely visit; it's a bit of a subway ride from central Taipei but well worth it!

Absolutely magical temple
Nov 2019 • Business
I saw this temple mentioned in an article about ‘off the beaten track ‘ Taipei. I am SO glad I went . It isn’t close the centre but it is totally worth it. Make sure you explore every nook and cranny as it is the temple complex that just keeps on giving . Go to the top floor and look down on over the rooftops , don’t miss the little fountain on the right of the temple and its terrapins and koi carp. And climb the hill behind the temple it is fabulous, take some food or a drink and enjoy the view from the little benches and tables that are dotted around . There are butterflies and pagodas and a wonderful view . There are so many different types of stone carved artworks on the walls . They are detailed and so fascinating .

You can buy some incense inside the temple itself and light it or you can buy it at the little store at the bottom where the cars park. There is no shop/ tea house once you leave the car park so carry water on a hot day. I spent about three hours there just soaking it all up. Enjoy it , it is the sort of place I would always like to go back to

Great Place - once we found it !
Sep 2019
As we found out later, if you get off the train from Taipei City & go to the left instead of the right - it can be very hard to find. There was one sign that we followed - & then the signs disappeared & we had no idea which direction to go. Very local area, so nobody had English. Eventually we found an older man who was on his way to pray so we followed him. I'm glad we persevered, it's a very impressive, beautiful temple built into the side of a cliff. Very busy, with lots of different ways to walk & explore. We didn't walk right up to the top as it was very hot & we're getting on a bit, but we walked through the tunnel. That was great, with very interesting pictures all along it. At the end there is a little mini temple with a balcony that looks over the street & towards the hills. Very interesting complex to sit outside and people watch. Lots of turtles in the fountain too.

A Massive Treasure
Oct 2019
Looks small from the outside, it is a massive complex. A beautiful view from the upper levels of the river side.

Worship place of the sea-goddess Mazu. Huge, multistorey temple complex that serves not only as a religious place - some shops, art venue, some food. The origins date back to 17th century. Beatiful decorations on the rooftops - check the photos. the tunnel inside the mountain takes you to another small chapel (of thousand hands Avalokitesvara) and a terrace with a river view. From Taipei, take the red line to Guandu station and change for the bus.

Fantastic temple complex without tourists
Jul 2019
The complex is an active temple where most people come here for praying and not taking pictures. It doesn't seem to be a part of tour groups which means very little tourists come here.

The complex is huge, don't miss the view and the tunnels. Don't forget to keep the voice low when in the building as there are regular services ongoing.

Great for kids as well, pick up a kid passport at the customer service and then collect stamps of gods from different buildings.

Open daily from morning to evening, easiest access by taxi. But to find a taxi home might be challenging, if unlucky, walk to the nearby guandu center (about 5min) and plenty of taxi there.

Loved it!
May 2019 • Solo
I visited here on an extremely rainy morning so was lucky not to have many other people to contend with. MRT to Guandu Station - 900 meter walk to temple. Make sure you do the skywalk as the top of the temple is spectacular and full of color. Temple was established in 1712. There is a booklet available onsite in various languages explaining all facets of the Temple. Worth a visit!

My Favorite Temple in the Taipei region
Apr 2019 • Family
Temples are omnipresent in Taiwan but this one is special. Be ready to climb many steps, as it is built into/onto a steep hillside. But the are many little gems and hidden corners for the patient and attentive. Do the tunnel walk, and be sure to bring snacks to have at the little tables at the top. I recommend timing it to see sunset if the day is not rainy.
