Best Beach in Potrero
Aug 2021
White sand, beautiful sunset, fantastic for many water sports or just relax, Penca Beach is, along with Pietra Beach, the best beaches in Potrero.

Great beach, but with no service
May 2021
Beautiful beach, but no restaurants or service in any form, it is kind of your own little paradise (if you bring all you need).
Sand is a little more white,

Lovely Beach off the beaten path
Mar 2020
Ask for directions from Playa Portero (sand there is more brown and that beach is just ok). A local told us to go to Penca Beach as the sand is white, the beach large and not so many waves. We put our things under a tree as there are no facilities here. The beach was not crowded (so nice after Tamarindo and other touristy spots). The water was wonderful. You might be lucky to snorkel off by the rocks, but the day we were there is was too murky to see much.

If you walk all the way down to the other end of the beach, there is a wonderful beach bar hidden called Stefanies. Chef Fabio cooked us a wonderful Italian lunch. We sat out doors to eat and it was really a lovely day.

May be best to visit on weekdays as this beach is one the locals like and it is probably busy on weekends.

Beautiful white sand beach!
Mar 2020
This is one of the prettiest beaches in the area! The sand is white and so beautiful and the water is a gorgeous shade of blue. We were there at high tide so the water was a little rough but we had fun getting knocked around by the waves- just be careful as rip currents can be strong in some areas. Access to this beach is easy and there's plenty of parking- most of which is shaded which is a plus! There's not much shade on the beach- only a few spots but as we were really just there to swim we didn't mind. My only regret is not going back in the evening to watch the sunset. Next time for sure!

Hidden gem
Feb 2020
Walk to the north end of the beach in Playa Potrero. Walk in towards town and look for a sign that says 300 metres to Playa Penca. White sand, spotless beach and beautiful water. A few small snack places open, depending on the season. Beautiful.

Nice little quiet beach but no real facilities other than a local shop and very little cover from the sun!

This is a beautiful beach, large surf at times. Go during the week and no one is there. Weekends can be busy. No facilities at beach so bring what you need.

The best!

Small, mostly white sand secluded beach, off the beaten path but worth the effort. Located past the north end of Playa Potrero but you need to drive around to get there and there is limited parking. Not crowded due to limited access Very little natural shade and no concessions or beach hawkers. The waters are crystal clear and pristine.

Beautiful hidden gem

If you are in playas del coco and expect more from a what you have seen there, the trip to playa penca is worth going. White sand beach and not too crowded. Bring your own snacks and water, prepare for a little walk and a 4x4 car is required to go until the very last possible end of the road.
I really loved Penca beach !

My favorite in the Playa Hermosa area

Penca beach was my favorite...there’s quite the hike down, maybe 1.5 miles, but I did it with crutches and a broken foot, so it’s doable. It’s private, the water was beautiful and clear (couldn’t go in, but it’s what my family reported to me), and definitely worth the hike!
