Hidden in the Anina Mountains, Bigar Waterfall is truly spectacular. Its shape and plant carpet conquers anyone. The beautiful pouring of water over the moss carpet is a unique natural phenomenon in the world. Having the shape of a cone, the waterfall is about 8 meters high and has as its source an underground water source that drains on a limestone wall. There you have the opportunity to descend on a wooden ladder at the base of the waterfall or to admire it from a height on a bridge over the river Nera. You can take photos from many angles and discover indescribable landscapes. This is my second visit and I can honestly say that it is worth seeing.

This is something different from a ordinary waterfall. Do not expect something extraordinary, but the split streams, the moss and the suspended rock above the water definitely make an unique sight.
In order to enjoy the full view, make sure the season is not dry and there are fewer people visiting the falls.
I would also encourage anyone to pay the symbolic fee and climb to the cave and the spring under the rock.

Bigar Waterfall is one of the most famous and beautiful waterfalls in the world. It can be found in Oravita, a city in Caras Severin county and it attracts numerous tourists thanks to its unique appearance. It looks like a huge mass of falling water dressing an enormous rock covered by moss.
The rocky base of the waterfall is dominated by green vegetation and it has a wider base giving it a pretty original and appealing appearance. The most beautiful and magical part of this waterfall is the water which runs over the green rock casting beautiful clear glows resembling very much to an oversized diamond.
Here you can also explore the 200 meters river that forms the waterfall and follow its course upwards where its spring is. There is also a small cave that waits to be discovered, a tall hole carved into the hard rock. To enter it you must cross the icy river bare foot and climb a latter made of rope and sticks that looks extremely fragile. It all seems like a wonderful adventure, one that nicely contributes to the thrill and joy of discovering such beautiful natural attractions.

Situated in a magical location in the mountains Almaj, Bigar waterfall was named the most beautiful in the world - The World Geography! And is true....
Waterfall Bigăr is in Caras-Severin, between Bozovici and Anina town, on keys Minis, National Park Nera-Beuşniţa. Access is very easy, waterfall being meters from the road DN57B, at the point called "Parallel 45".
From the top of a cone of rock, covered with green moss, water falls from a height of seven meters, and charms you with its beauty!
If you come on holiday in Romania, do not miss this wonder of nature, pure and lovely!

I see the picture, and I say: "will must see this" and go on the road!
We don't regret anything, we see most beautiful thing on this planet, a mushroom waterfall. Near the Minis River gorge, some clear and very blue water explode on a million water curtains.
The words are useful go and see it!
100 meter from the main attraction you have another little waterfall near the crystalline source.

This has been one of the biggest disappointments of my life. We were looking forward to see an amazing waterfall because we had heard it was one of the most beautiful of Europe and it was definitively not like that. First of all, the area is so small you can see the whole "park" in 15 minutes, maybe less. The cascade is way smaller than it is portrayed, and it doesn't have anything special at all. Don't let the photoshopped images on the internet fool you, it doesn't have blue-ish water, it doesn't sparkle, it doesn't look magical, you can't come that close to it, it's not even recommended to get in the water or near it, you can find snakes (a small one came by my foot when I was standing near the river). So if you're passing by it's okay to take a quick look, but don't waste time going all the way there if you are far away, it's not worth it.

It was rated by The world geography magazine as no.1 on a top of 8 unique waterfalls in the world. It is very beautiful and definitely worth seeing. Access is very easy, as it's right on the side of the road from Oravita to Anina. If you have 15 minutes time, you can also go to see the spring and a grotto which is 300 metres above, in the wood. Useful tip: water from spring is potable.

In the beginning of September we went to visit the Gorge of Danube River (“Cazanele Dunarii”). Just about that time, the fall has been presented on TV and everybody made a big fuss about it, so since we were around, we decided to make a detour and visit the fall to see it for our own.

After seeing some pictures and heard so much about it, we has quite some expectation. Unfortunately the fall has not live up to them. The fall itself it is very beautiful, and with the correct sunlight on it is has amazing colors. Unfortunately the immediate surrounding requires some attention (e.g. some building in construction). It is something between complete wild and nicely developed, but neither one of them.

The bridge and the constriction around it make it look smaller, and take away a lot from its beauty. The braves can climb down and have a better view, but again, the constructions around it just take away the beauty.

It is not much, it requires some enhancements, but it got potential. I personally had other (bigger) expectations from it. I would classify it around 3.5 stars.

If you are around, and have time to kill, you can choose this attraction.

Let's not get superexcited over this place just because a foreign publication felt short of inspiration so they'd come up with an article in which they declared 'behold, silly ignorants, these are the top 10 places you've never heard of and you are ought to declare further that indeed are unique and spectacular'. And so it was, hoardes praised and encouraged the idea. Sure, go visit, but don't expect something utterly out of this world. Nice, ok, but highly overrated waterfall.

If you're in the area, it's worth a look. It is however disappointing to see the arrangements (actually the lack of them).
Someone decided we need to pay to visit the Bigar Spring and Cave, but nothing was done to be worth the charge and there's nothing to see.
The point is someone told some relatives it's awesome and they planned an entire wedding photo shoot over there.
My opinion... go there if you are nearby, do not plan an entire trip around this "marvel".
