A sad tragedy...and sad state of park
Feb 2020 • Family
The art work here is gorgeous and stands as a reminder of what happened - very beautiful when lit up with lights. But the park aroumd it is untidy and has garbage around it and right by a canal that smells. If it was well maintained it would be a spot to sit and reflect and remember...but sadly it is not taken care of.

(Side note: it's one of the only gyms Pokemon gyms in Kamala beach)

Disappointed

The sculpture is wonderful. I would hardly call it a park. No one it seems looks after the site. A real shame

Very sobering especially when you look at where you are then scroll on internet and see the 18 metre wave coming

Very good meeting point, as local Taxis in car park, cost about 150Bht to Patong walkaway if they want more they will call you back, its their barter system. If you want a taxi to Airport, then set up the GRAB app same as Uber. Cost from here to airport for 3 people around 650Bht, Hotels will charge you 1200Bht for same vehicle.

Very sad to see how this Memorial has been neglected
Nov 2019
Considering it is nearly 15 years since the tragedy it is frankly disgraceful to see the neglected condition of this memorial. As previously noted a construction site is just dumping spoil adjacent to the memorial and the subsequent dilapidated state of this area along with the rubbish is awful.

I hope that the local Thai authorities take note of this post and take some prompt action as it is a total disrespect to both the tourists and Thai's that lost their lives.

disturbing at best
Oct 2019
This area was undergoing some major works when we were at Kamala, there are many tsunami museums around, the one in Khao Lak really confronting, It's great to be reminded of the devastation and how many people particularly thai hotel staff who lost there lives, and a timely reminder to be alert. I'm glad they have these places in each town where people who lost loved ones can go to remember

This needs so much TLC
Oct 2019
The memorial park should be just that : a memorial to the victims and survivors. But instead it is unkempt and very tatty. Come on Tourism Kamala do something about this. It's current state is a disgrace.

1 minute silence
Oct 2019
this was a somber place to visit for the people that died during the tsunami many years ago. The while family held 1 minute silence as respect

Lovely Tribute to those that lost their lives in the Tsunami
Nov 2018
Very nice tribute to those that lost there lives. There is a small park next door but it takes literally minutes to look at and take photos. Was still worth a visit as we went to the lovely white sand beach there and there were some street food stalls where we had breakfast (fruit and fresh coconut milk) a delicious lunch (stir fried chicken and rice and a sweet and sour chicken with rice) and shared a fresh fruit smoothie. The whole day including the bus cost only £15... Make a day of it and take your beachwear with you.

Disappointed
Aug 2019 • Solo
Im quite disappointed with the memorial park. The construction nearby just lump all the soil next to the memorial. The local authority should not allow this to be happen. And the stall nearby dump the rubbish directly into the river.
