Charlie’s Beach is wonderful. Amazing colour, gentle waves and great for shell collecting. If you’re going to swim (and it’s definitely recommended) brace yourself as the water is icy. But fantastic!
We lucked out with great weather and loved our visit.

Beautiful white sand, green waters, little seaweed, and toilets nearby. Quite a shelf drop but great for swimming. Usually quiet.

We travelled the length of N.Uist, Benbecula, S. Uist and finally reached Eriskay in our Scottish Tourers motorhome. The island looked quite magnificent in brilliant sunshine as we crossed the causeway. We were quite amused to see the sign 'Caution Otters crossing'!! A few miles on we pulled up in a spot where wild camping was acceptable which overlooked the sea and right on the edge of the village of Baile, facing west to the island of Lingay with Barra and Fuday to the south west. An unbelievably beautiful place to spend time in such silence on the deserted Charlie's beach. The colours in the sky and sea were beyond my imagination and it was very difficult to accept that this really was Britain! The beach was white, so white and immaculate. My husband and I loved the place. Waking up and stepping out to see that fantastic view from our motorhome doorstep was one of life's greatest pleasures. There was a great shop at the top of the village that seemed to sell absolutely everything and a lovely little pub, the AM Politician, that looked like a converted bungalow. We stopped for a quick drink whilst passing but found we were the only customers so didn't stop for a second one. Glad we called in though. Eriskay is a great place to visit, its a shame its so far away from Somerset!

This was my favourite beach of all the beaches on the Uists. Easily accessible, peaceful, parking nearby and absolutely stunning of course. Definitely worth stopping by and walking up and down for half an hour or so

Great beach. Not busy. Crystal clear water (even if a tad cold I July).
Secluded setting. Well worth a visit and travelling to specifically for the picturesque setting.

Lovely beach, fantastic setting, clean, beautiful area. Nice place to swim when the water warms up a bit. The Barra ferry crossings take place from here.

The beach near Am Politician is easily accessible and at high tide there were seals playing close to the shore ; further along and near to the ferry terminal is Prince Charlie’s beach which can be accessed from either end though the southern end has a path leading down whereas the northern end involves more of a scramble down. Also worth visiting the famous Eriskay FC football pitch near to the beach. As we visited before May the ponies were regular visitors to the village during our stay but understand they are on the higher ground over the summer months. A lovely , friendly island.

While spending a week in a cottage in South Uist, we were keen to visit Eriskay and were able to choose a day when the weather forecast was favourable. The whole experience was memorable. We had gathered various leaflets with walk suggestions, most of which started at the beach where Prince Charlie first landed in Scotland - beautifully white and peaceful. But apart from this, we also visited An Acarsaid (harbour), and climbed a hill to see rock-face paintings by a former parish priest and to enjoy amazing sunny views over to Barra and back to South Uist. The village shop is also worth a mention and we ended our day with a coffee at the Am Politician pub.
In fairness to Berneray at the north end of the Uists, the beaches there more than match Eriskay beach - so try to get to both islands.

We came out of the Politician's car park, turned right and went past the cemetery and on to the end of the road. We couldn't see a beach. There was a howling gale and heavy rain but I would have walked anyway if I could have found the beach. We drove up to the top of the hill and could see it below but couldn't see how to reach it. Can I access it from the ferry terminal?

Hi, when you drive past the older cemetery ( stone wall ) you carry on following the road past the newer houses, there's a parking area on the right after the last of the newer houses, there's a grassy slope that leads down to the beach, you can also take the car down to just above the beach. If you drive round to the ferry point there's a small stone wall on the right just before the cattle grid, you can park nose in here or on the grass verge, a stoney path leads from here down to the beach, you can also park down at the ferry point and walk back to the beach, there's toilets and a shower in the building at the ferry point.
