The area
Neighborhood: Anping District/ Annan District
Anping District is the area first developed in Taiwan. It is also the key to Taiwan’s involvement in the international community. The two famous historic monuments, Anping Fort (a.k.a. Fort Zeelandia) and Eternal Golden Castle leave behind them the traces of international trade made by various countries. Another historic monument that stands the test of time is Tree House, in which beautiful stories were created along with the running water in the canal in the course of history. The National Museum of Taiwan History in the form of green building stands in Annan District. Next to the coastal Cihcao Dajhong Temple is the amazingly gorgeous green tunnel formed by mangroves. Moving slowly in the river course on a pipe raft, you will be greeted by hermit crabs and mudskippers. The sunlight glitters in the woods. This will be like a tranquil journey in the no-man Amazon. What comes next is Luermen River estuary. People can enjoy the beautiful sunset in the Natural Defence of the Capital and also visit the one and only temple which has two barefooted door gods of foreign descent, guarding General Jheng Chengkong, making the trip to Tainan full of stories and mysteries.

I'm the local at Luerhmen in Tainan. It's the biggest the temple in Taiwan, and the second one in the Asia. If you want to learn the temple culture in Taiwan, It's your first must-go place. After that, you must go to eat the fresh seafood in Chiku district, which is next to Luerhmen.

Really big and stunning temple, or I should say temples.
At the start you can see only the Tao's temple but if you keep on walking you will find a Buddhist temple with 3 floors, just amazing! If you come to Tainan you must visit here!

It will held a grand sky firework in Lantern Festival for each year. It will attract thousand of people to visit.
In that day, the temple has a parade, and many vendors will come which form a night market, making the night flourishing.
Moreover, there is Beehive firecrackers for celebrating. It must be careful!

Located a about 20 minutes from Tainan Train Station is this very ornate temple. The hotel staff said its the most decorated temple in Taiwan. I am not sure I agree with that, but it was certainly pretty spectacular!! The giant guardian demons out front, the multi story access to the upper chambers, the moat with the turtles, and a prayer hall with a replica of a boat inside!! As I wrote in my other reviews, Tainan is a great little city and if you make it here, you definitely should visit Luermenma.

There is no fee to enter, there are vending machines for beverages and some hot food is served and it has clean restrooms.

A beautiful well maintained temple. Architecture is fantastic and friendly local people, although they speak little English.

It seems that in Taiwan and Vietnam, there are many temples. This one is very ornate, large and is worth a visit. Again a local guide gives you the best understanding of the history.

I went there by number 99 bus. On winter/summer Vacation, the bus goes every hour, it takes about 40 min from Chicken tower. Huge, beautiful, worth to visit. I hope to visit again

I liked this place, but not too much. I have seen a few more interesting and beautiful temples, this one is special because it's huuuge and impressive, but sometimes I culdn't avoid the feeling of tackiness. For instance the two huge figures in front spoil the view. Also I visited it during the New Year and there was a lady singing cheesy Taiwanese songs very loudly which spoiled the experience for me. But yes, this place is big, it has three floors and three or more buildings visitors can see, so definitely it will impress someone who hasn't seen many Chinese style temples before.

Maybe I visited too many temples in Taiwan and China, so its just another temple for me. For Western or travellers, should go and visit.

Unbelievable... It's tremendously huge temple in a small city. Worth visiting there.
Just get bus no. 99 and get down in front of the temple.
