We hired a car and headed up to see this park during a weeklong stay in Sanya. It was an excellent option for getting out of the hustle-and-bustle of the Sanya resorts for a day and experiencing the true Hainan Island. A well maintained, natural rainforest area - not an overly touristy feel about it, but well maintained and signposted roads. Perfect for a relaxing afternoon, whether you want to walk some of the trails or just have a drive through some great forested areas with impressive views.
Easily reachable from Sanya along the G98 freeway (and then about 15-20 mins after leaving the freeway exit), it took us about an hour from our resort in the Sanya Bay area near the airport. Entrance to the park is RMB60 for adults and RMB30 for children 1.1 to 1.4m in height. From the park entrance there is a ring-road that takes you around to the park's main scenic spots. If you head anti-clockwise (to the right) it's about 10km to a point where you can walk to the park's highest peak. Taking the clockwise road (left), it is 15km to Tianchi Lake which has a couple of leisurely and fairly quiet resorts set on its shores. We had lunch at the resort's restaurant - very quiet on a Monday afternoon, which was great! The menu was only in Chinese (and staff only spoke Chinese).

The rainforest is about an hour and a half from Sanya but well worth travelling the distance for some breathtaking view and scenery. There are some many plants and animals on view that you'll need lots of time to appreciate everything.
You can get there by bus but you're better off taking a car or arranging a tour. It's easy to get lost in the park so you could get a guide. Bring water, sun block, insect repellent, sun glasses and wear comfortable shoes. Enjoy the fresh air.

If you don't want to do the touristy sites while in Hainan, and provided you have a car - a car is an absolute prerequisite to come here - this is a refreshing getaway from the crowds. It's a huge park with many different points of interest. We only had time to climb the highest peak, an hour's climb of 1800m. It was tiring but worth it, with a viewing platform up in the clouds. The weather changes very quickly, and we got drenched - after all, this is a RAIN forest - but the rain and sun created a beautiful rainbow.
Tickets cost 60 yuan per person, and you could spend a whole day here seeing all the scenic spots. Remember that you need a car. It's impossible to walk the park.

its a fine park with surprisingly the freedom to roam. You need to be in a vehicle to pass the border gate and its about 2okm to the plateau. Nights are cold even in tropical Hainan at this height. There are some "farm" restaurants but no shops and no public transport in the park.
Vegetation is being cut mercilessly for coffee plantations etc and water is stolen very visibly from the streams for irrigation. Less visible is bird-poaching with shooting platforms hidden in the bush and large mammal pits (for bears?) Hard to see the authorities are not aware of this situation. Instead they construct eco-disaster tourist "sights" like the ridiculous steps surrounding an old tree.
There is a charge to enter the park that nobody seems to pay....

The air of Jianfengling national forest park is best. You could see the seaview and the fullview of Tianchi in the top of the mountain.
