While in Chitwan, we were invited by Mr. Arjun, the Manager of Chitwan Tiger Camp, in the evening for a Tharu Cultural Program. It was a wonderful experience. You could see the Tharu lifestyle through this cultural program. Next morning, while on our way to the jungle safari, we crossed the Tharu Village and our guide gave us a glipse of the Tharu village along with their lifestyle. Very nice.

We were taken here by Ox & Cart, which resulted in a driver poking the Ox with a sharp stick to make them move while pulling a heavy wooden cart containing 5-6 people.
I was almost sick being one of the people on this cart and seeing how the animals are treated.
You will be taken a small village where you get shown how locals build a house with mud.
I wonder how you would feel if someone got paid to bring unknown people to your home and showed them around while you live your life and get nothing in return!
you will get taken to a small museum which explains how the Tharu people have been treated poorly in their history while Nepal enforced them to relocate so they can turn their national park into a money making scheme. When you visit Chitwan you'll realised their national park has nothing to do with protecting animals, it's all about money. Sad but true.

If you get the chance to stay overnight in a Tharu village after your jungle trek you should. The people are very kind, the village is on the edge of an amazing river, the sun sets purple around green mountains, it's warm and filled with the wildlife surrounding Chitwan national park. A great adventure.

They host a 1 hour show starting at 8 PM in the theatre. Many students and some adults are performing local dances. I would recommend to go and help them supporting their families.

One of the best place to visit in nepal to those who are interested to learn about nepali culture, tradition and lifestyles. As I was in my journey to learn about different people of different caste and culture I found tharu community as one of the best in Chitwan.
I fully recommend to visit Tharu musuem and Tharu community to those who are willing to learn about Nepali culture

Maybe I missed something. I love to walk through villages. I walk through villages and find many interesting and enlightening. I did not find the Tharu village much different from others. So, for me, tis was fine, but not extraordinary.

We did a walk through this Tharu village during our G Adventures tour. It felt like a traditional village and authentic. People were going about their lives;washing dishes, kids playing, chickens running around, sweeping. We looked around and were able to go inside a home. Definitely worth checking out if in the area.

supposedly a real village it seemed a bit staged and far too clean for a Nepalise village. they had traditional houses and a few animals and farm land. it is a regular tourist stopping point and i feel that it survives on tourist income rather than traditional farming.

Hi Jen, I have been to Chitwan twice, staying at a resort in Sauraha on one side of the Rapti River. Opposite is the National Park. I highly recommend Jungle Safari Resort and my wonderful guide Narayan Adhikari. Last year's earthquake hit 30 mins after my arrival from Kathmandu and one day after I finished trekking in the Everest region. I was lucky.
I spent extra time here and bought gifts for my guides young children. I always take books and stories of Australian animals when I travel as gifts for children I meet along the way. I was surprised to find a small shop selling balls, pencils, books and some toys in Sauraha and I did buy things for the children. Such excitement when I invited them to choose a gift. You will have the most AMAZING time here and in the other places you are visiting.
