With so much space for these magnificent elephants we will never understand the chains.
We were told this is to stop them from wandering off. With so much money coming in from visitors why not build a large enclosure where they can wander.
Better still LET THEM BE FREE

I think you have to put this place into context to a degree. The intention is genuine in that they are seeking to increase the population of elephants in the park but I do wander if this is the right way to do it. Chaining intelligent beasts to a stake to restrict their movement is surely not right and they should have much more freedom. I do honestly believe they are looked after, fed and watered regularly but some are clearly stressed. This is not done well and left me very uneasy. I think you can give this a miss.

Should have read reviews before going and we're sad to see all the elephants in chains.
We read the training information boards and we were shocked to learn about the very harsh training conditions. Wouldn't go again. Originally thought I was a sanctuary not a training centre

I understand it is a breeding centre but not happy to see these beautiful creatures chained. Maybe there is no other way, and they may be a threat to farmers, but still, pulls at the heart strings.

Here you can see some elephants who having a baby or getting ready for doing later the elephant-safari. All elephants are chained up und you have to ask if this is really a good life for the elephants. Right now they have a very young elephant, who is just born early in october 2018, so that’s maybe a reason to visit, otherwise you have seen for sure already elephants otherwise.

I knew this place was controversial due to the many negative reviews. However...it was amazing. There were quite a few baby elephants including one that was a few days old! The facility was well kept, clean, the elephants had shade and lots of food in there pens. The elephants are chained by one leg to a post with probably a 20ft diameter of range of motion. They also are apparently out in the jungle free range grazing during the day. I love animals and when it is sad to see a beautiful animal chained I think in this instance it is important to remember they are domesticated working animals no longer wild. I think the chains were the most distressing component to most of the reviewers. It honestly reminded me of a sled dog operation near my home. The dogs there too are chained when not exercising or working. It distresses many animal lovers in the community however they are well treated but at the end of the day working animals. I think it is important to remember that in this instance. That being said I have no idea how well these elephants are actually treated. It appears well but I'm no expert nor a veterinarian. To the untrained eye they seem well cared for. I hope I'm right.

Disappointing to see the treatment of the elephants here to be honest. And it's one of the places where they treat them better. They are still chained up tight with very little room to move. The locals seem to justify it as they are working animals. But as a visitor it was just not nice to see.

It was basically an elephant prison camp.
Elephants had both legs chained together. It was a horror show.

Elephants are tied up by their front feet. When we walked in and seen the elephants feet had big heavy chains around their front feet I told my guide I was leaving and didn’t want to take part in something this cruel act. My guide tried telling me it was so the animals wouldn’t kill humans. If this is something that upsets you please don’t go see for yourself avoid it completely.

Today I had a look at the Breeding Centre in Chitwan. What sad to see this. People lock them up, hurt them to use them for tourism. This was clear to me in 2 minutes. I went to the gate and told the locals I dont want to responser it and ask my money back. Offcource the dont give it back, offcource I will not leave. The locals ( workers ftom this place ) came to me all together with sticks to hit me like the do with the animals. This is my experience with this place for animals. And in the morning seeing all stupid tourist next to the river making selfies, trowing the sigarets and plastic in the river... I hope there is someone who can do something on this place. The animals need help! And the crazy people need lesions! Put them in prison or something... So they can feel it by them selfes!

Waarom mishandelen jullie olifanten en waarom ketenen Jullie de olifanten zo strak vast dat deze niet kunnen bewegen?

Hello. I'm planning to stay in Kathmandu. How far is this place from Kathmandu? Are there restaurants around?
Written March 7, 2018
A long way on poor roads. Did not notice any restaurants nearby, you would find these in Chitwan town.

Last year one of the elephant birth produced 2 babies at a time. They are growing up OK. This was the first time ever happened in all the breeding centers in the world.
