This site is worth it to get some understanding of the borax mining that is an important part of the park's history. The site is very close to Furnace Creek and has good road access. The ruins and information panels will be of most interest to history buffs. I liked it, but my kids (teenagers) rated this their least favorite activity in DVNP. It does not take long to visit.

The Harmony Borax Works is just a quick drive from Furnace Creek. The history of the place is intriguing. It was the main reason for the opening of Death Valley and the reason behind the popularity of the Furnace Creek area. At the peak of operations they produced 3 tons a day and the finished product was hauled out by large mule teams (20 mule teams). Not much is left but take a few minutes and a very short walk to see some of the history behind Death Valley National Park.

One of our first stops once we were inside the park. Fairly short walk from the parking lot. You can see some of the remnants of the mining equipment used.

This is a small area that you can wall around rather quickly. There is some old machinery that you can also check out. I would stop and take the walk if you are in the area because it is worth the time.

Can't imagine working out here decades ago. Good walk around some historical equipment and old wagons. Good information on the placards. Worth a stop for a while.
