About
The Polar Cabin is a traditional norwegian cottage. It offers accommodation and activities during summer and winter in a spectacular arctic landscape at Vagnes, 20 km from Tromsø city centre. This is a perfect base camp for outdoor activities, observing Northern Lights or just relaxing, barbequeing, reading books, listening to birds singing and enjoying nature, or doing activities such as ice fishing, fjord tours, snowshoeing, alpine skiing, hiking, fishing, bycicling, sea kayaking, camping... We are focused on the quality of the activities and we offer good food, adventure, information and service. Polar Cabin is the place where you can enjoy life!

We were lucky enough to see the aurora all four nights of our stay. Jana and Michael were wonderful hosts and made us feel so at home. One of the best Airbnbs we have ever stayed at - I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting a memorable experience from their time in Tromso.

We arrived at Polar Cabin mid-day and were greeted by Michal & Jana, a very pleasant couple, showed us around the cabin and what room was ours. The lounge room was huge with a nice cozy wood burning stove, so inviting. The property is large so lots to hike and venture out, we got to see Northern Lights a few nights. It's a great spot being its so dark, but not a problem with headlamps. One night we had a bbq which the food was excellent, we really enjoy the homemade bread that Michal made. Each night we had such good conversations with the couple and felt like we knew them for years and great hosts. I highly recommend coming to Polar Cabins for your get away and you won't be disappointed, Great People.

I recently stayed here last weekend and it was truly amazing. I came here with 5 of my friends and the owners of the cabin were so accommodating. The cabin is so cosy and warm and they provide everything for you. We were welcomed with coffee/tea, some snacks and even their little dog Coffee! The fact that you could just walk outside and see the northern lights was the best part. And when it got too cold to stay outside, we ended up watching the lights from the window all warm :) Also being guided up a mountain the next morning was so nice because the view at the top was breathtaking. I would definitely recommend this place to experience the lights and to also explore the mountains and the beautiful scenery. The polar cabin is truly a must!

If you are looking for a place to stay outside the city to have a proper look at the northern lights look no further. This spacious cabin was beautifully located in the woods outside Tromsø. The hosts Michal and Jana went out of their way to make our stay amazing. Even though we didn’t book it Michal took us snowshoeing in the middle of the night to let us enjoy the northern lights even more and that was just one of many extra’s they did. The cabin is spacious and clean. Definitely would recommend this to everyone!

Just back from Northern Lights, made unforgettable by the cherry on the cake, such a cool Polar Cabin. Breath the nature of Norway and just feel cool, cozy and comfortable, romantic and excited, unexpected and great. Breath taking Northern Lights above yourself, while you enjoy them in the real Norwegian way, in a warm and cozy cottage in the forest, without the hassle of feeling like a first timer tourist just driving your car, getting meanwhile hungry or tired. Rather at dinner, give their Bacalao a try... and you'll never forget this local fresh-fish deli either, prepared with salted local cod, creamy tomatoes pulp, onion, olives, garlic and some more spices. Great food was also at their pantagruelic breakfast. Got it? No comparison with sitting in a dark getting cold. Beyond words, the flawless family staff was also very careful of us, personal, kind, toughtful and let us feel special (and dessert, tea and coffee during all stay). Unforgettable, worthy, I'd recommend it to families with older children, individuals, couples and medium sized groups who enjoy the simple difference between being effortlessly an enthusiastic and smart traveller really enriching his "journey cv" or just an ordinary payer in the tourism industry. Polar Cabin is unique and without concurrence, coz it's the real alternative style to damn enjoy the local phenomenon, like true locals truly do. Definitely a Go!

This was a fantastic way to see the norwegian scenery around tromso, and enjoy a really enjoyable home cooked lunch to boot. Michael and Jana were brilliant, engaging and pleasant.
Please don't be put off by the snow shoeing, it wasn't too strenuous, and please do not be put off by having to use public transport to get there, it is really really simple, even I could cope.
Please do this trip, it was one of the best experiences I had in tromso, and also on mine and the other halfs adventures around Europe

We had the pleasure to experience the 2-night-polar-cabin adventure with Jana and Michael. It was beyond what we expected it to be! These two are the nicest hosts you can imagine - outgoing, friendly, communicative and just two really really nice people eager to share their norwegian experience. The stay in their polar cabin allowed us to experience the norwegian landscape and nature as immediate as possible. No need to get on a shuttle bus to hunt for the polar lights - you just put on your gear and off you go into this beautiful scenery of mountains, fjords, forests etc. We got so many helpful and interesting information from Michael on our snowshoe-tours and had really nice chats with him, Jana and the (few) other guests in the cozy common room. And Jana is a fantastic cook, spoiling us with her homemade norwegian dishes and lovely desserts and making us feel at home in their cabin.

We recommend this package to everyone who is a nature lover, appreciative and curious about the things around you and the people that are with you. It's a magical landscape and we were right in the middle of it - unforgettable!

I felt at home, the attention, service, generosity and kindness of Jana and Michal along with that incredible experience of seeing the northern lights even when the chance were so low... everything was a dream!!
Without a doubt I was very fortunate to have chosen Polar Cabin for this incredible adventure.

I cannot say enough nice things about my stay! Jana and Michal were amazing hosts, very friendly and relaxed, and with a ton of local knowledge.

The cabin was cosy, beautiful, and in a stunning location. The food made by Jana was delicious, and the snowshoe treks led by Michal were breathtaking. Michal also provided some top-quality photography of our trip (including of the aurora, which was visible all through the night!), all included as part of the stay.

And then there was the aurora borealis itself! The location was perfect for viewing the aurora in all its beauty, with no nearby light to diminish its glow, and a full 360 view of the skies. Highly recommended!

Really loved every part. Easy pick up from Tromsø then a quick drive out of town. Great fun snow showing up to the lovely cabin. Great food and lovely chatty hosts. We then chose to head up further to the lake. Great views of n lights. Very remote
Very recommended. Be aware there’s about a 40 min trek to reach the cabin but it’s pretty easy for most. Infinitely better than trundling around on a bus!
