It's a good walk from the car park to the beach from which you can get near the arch. It's a winding route slowly downhill which means the inevitable uphill coming back. Very safe even for children but longer than you might expect. To get a full view through the arch itself without getting your feet wet involves a bit of rock scrambling and good shoes. Well worth the effort to see this spectacular formation.

What a beautiful place, we booked to go next year. Be mindful to take insect repellent and the Midges, you can hardly see them pack a punch.

Simply amazing! Long walk but we’ll worth the view! Climb over the fence and navigate your way down the rocks for amazing views!

Sea Arch
An excellent natural wonder.Well worth a visit. There has been reports of locals objecting to visitors wondering threw fields to gain access to the arch. This problem has been solved with a car park approx half a mile from access path. Which is a fenced off path made from road to beach. This pass is very steep and Graveled. Not wheelchair friendly. plus you need to be relatively fit.

A beautiful natural sea arch near Fanad Head in Donegal. You can go to it while on your way to the Fanad Lighthouse. This marvellous attraction was closed to the public due to the legal row over a right of way.
Thankfully wiser heads prevailed and it is actually better than it was before. The local council constructed a gravel path that is fenced in and runs more or less parallel with the old route. Congratulations to all involved in this new route.
It also involves a new car park set back a few hundred yards from the original spot.
For those who are not so fit there are seats to rest on along the route. This is a great addition and it is wheelchair friendly too. So come along and see the Pollet Great Arch. Best of all it is free.

Fabulous sea arch. Was able to get great photos up close. Spent well over and hour or 2 here exploring. Well worth the visit. There is a large purpose built dedicated car park and trail leading to the rocky beech that the arch can be viewed from. Loved it. My 13 year old and 11 year old did too.

Most wonders of the natural world are in remote places that are difficult to access. That was always the case with the Great Arch but it is now much more accessible. There’s a large car park but care is needed on the narrow road and visitors should be considerate to other tourists and the local residents.
The path downhill is easy but you do have to come back up and the less fit will be glad of the seats along the way! The rocks are slippery and dangerous and good footwear is essential if you want to get closer to the arch.
Low tide is the best time to visit but it is spectacular at any time and in any weather.
If you can, go early in the day, midweek or off season when there are less people about.

Well worth the visit with stunning scenery and the Arch does not disappoint. We were lucky enough to visit during low tide so got up close but be prepared to traverse some rocks when you get down there . Great new walkway to the Arch now Installed with a Car Park Close by. It's a must see if exploring Fanad Head.

I recently visited this outdoor attraction and I was gobsmacked by the effort that went into making the Great Arch truly accessible to visitors and locals alike. There is a long gravel path, fenced on both sides with benches along the way if you need a breather or you just want to sit and enjoy the views. At the end of the path there are steps over the fence for those who wish to get even closer, (warning, it can be treacherous with slippery rocks, so you should proceed only if you are confident and surefooted). Whichever way you go, you will walk away feeling blessed at the sight of this natural wonder.

Why has nobody pointed out that the Arch view is accessible for good walkers along the shore? Take the fenced path (Casán a' Traigh) opposite Doherty's Shop in Doagh Beg to Doaghbeg beach and follow the shore north -being careful not to leave litter or damage fences or trespass on cultivated land.. The walk has its own points of interest like the shallow cave known both as An Altóir (The Altar) and Uaimh na gCuntas (Cave of the countings): being hidden, with good sea access, allowing Mass services in times of persecution and a place for smugglers to divide their spoils. Local people insist that the blocked access is an ancient right of way. It would be easy to prove that - access for twelve consecutive years under Irish law, (the kissing-gate access is still pictured on Google Maps) but enforcing it is an expensive legal business requiring a Court Order.

That being the case, why do the brown signs installed point to the blocked access? Knowing these things is all well and good, but tourists cannot be expected to know it. Besides, there are still laws in place that prohibit denial of access to the foreshore, which is the greater point here. Why else would the gate and path be there if not to provide access? And why would barbed wire and greased gates exist if not to deny it?
