Use a local company - "CLIMBING Kilimanjaro" company owned and run by Justin. First, I recommend hiking this mountain before going to Kilimanjaro. This is a tough hike though since it is a steep one - 4566 m. If you can do this, you can summit Kilimanjaro any route. However, you will need excellent and supportive company to guide you through these experiences and I was lucky to find "Climbing Kilimanjaro". When you are searching for a company, of course, you need to read the reviews. Food is important since you need this everyday of your climb. Anyway, let's get to the people. Gabriel was my guide - personable, attentive, supportive, knowledgeable, and has integrity. "Pole, Pole", as he says (slow and steady). Great asset to the company. Listen to everything he says from the start of your climb. He will make sure you have the right gear and for summitting, he will tell you what to wear. Listen to him. Then, chef Maliki tastes every single meal he serves to make sure they are good. All have flavor and "not bland". The porters were also excellent - Eliya and Juma. Tip well, everyone. They all keep you safe up there. I highly recommend this company to everyone. Use locals.

I had an amazing experience with Climbing Kilimanjaro! Daniel, Jonas, and Salim were incredible guides. They were very knowledgeable, charismatic, fun, and reassuring. Lots of laughs and good times on the trail with these guys! If you can get them specifically I'd highly recommend you do :) We felt cared for and well attended to the whole way, and I never for a moment felt that safety was a concern. The songs the team sang going up to the summit kept morale high! Everyone on the team made us feel like part of the family. The whole experience by Climbing Kilimanjaro was beautifully engineered, from the amazing meals, to the songs, to the sunrise from the summit (the best sunrise of my life) - very happy I chose to climb with them!

Summiting Kilimanjaro was the most incredible experience, a dream come true - a dream that became reality because of our amazing Tanzanian 'Family' at Climbing Kilimanjaro. For those of you who just want a 'quick-read' review - If you want the most authentic, exciting, supportive, happy, grounding, fun, blissful, exhilarating, challenging, positive, enlightening, and quite frankly perfectly enriching experience of Africa's 'member' of the Seven Summits, then you will miss out in life if you do not go on that journey with the wonderful people of Climbing Kilimanjaro. This recommendation comes from our heart. For those of you who just want the extra detailed review - We embarked on the 6-day Machame route; a duration we would only discover the reality of the challenge on day 5. Each day was a new experience, in a new environment, seeing different landscapes at the change in elevation, reaching new heights, all the while the anticipation of the summit stood silently in front of us as a reminder of what was yet to come. We summited the mountain at sunrise on 13th June 2022. Living life above the clouds for these 6 days was so beautiful, blissful, and the reality of what's important in life becomes ever more obvious. Every individual, my girlfriend, myself, and anyone else will reflect and resonate with their own experiences on this journey. It will carry a different meaning for different people, and that's what makes it so special. Kilimanjaro will be your trip, and your suprise, so for that reason, we won't write anymore detail about it, but highlight instead how this amazing local organisation brought our experience into life. The crew that embarked on this quest with us consisted of a lead-guide, Agrey; an assistant guide, Rama; a chef, Godfrey; a head porter, Joshua; and the rest of the amazing porter team, Armani, Juma, Innocent, Gudlav, Emanuil, Thomas, Hussein and Ruben. We have honestly never had the pleasure of crossing paths with such an inspiring group of individuals. The support, care, attention, and happiness they brought us on this experience, we deserve no more righteously than anyone else on this planet, but every day, their focus was making sure we had the most memorable time; and it was always done with the biggest smile. Summiting this mountain is hard, but it would have been considerably harder if it was not for these people. Watching what they do each day, how easy they make it look, is mesmerising, we were so impressed and grateful for their company every day. Agrey and Rama, what can we say, these two are both very special humans, that shared with us their life stories of growing up and living in Tanzania; they supported us each and every moment of every day; and every thing they did was to ensure we achieved our dream of reaching the summit. Thank you for being there for us the whole time. Godfrey, well, we are absolutely astonished as to how someone can cook such delicious, nutritious and authentic meals on the side of a mountain. The best food we have ever eaten, in such a remote part of the planet, phenomenally impressed. Every meal was cooked with love, to absolute perfection. The best chef you could ever have on this summit. And the entire porter crew, the will, resilience, positivity and courageous attitude could teach many a lesson in this world, you inspired us on a daily basis to keep moving forward with a smile.
