We enjoyed a tasting while sitting on the patio; the owner took the time to explain each product and how it was made. Beautiful location, friendly people, and lovely products. We left with several bottles of mead and some gifts for others. Would definitely visit again!

If you are looking for a true taste of PEI, you can't do much better than this. Learning about the farm and tasting 4 different honey wines (mead) along the way was a wonderful way to spend part of a summer afternoon. Charles takes great pride in his farm and his wines. He, his wife, and the staff could not have been friendlier and more welcoming.

The easy decision to make is to visit. The tough decision will be which wines, honeys, etc. to take with you! Thanks for a memorable visit.

The wine is lovely but the honey honestly tastes like cow turd. I don’t even know how else to describe it...

Charles and Laura gave us a friendly welcome to their farm. Charles showed us around the farm, and explained how they are a self-sustaining farm, making use of everything they farm from plant to animals to honey! After the informative tour, we were able to sample all 4 of the meads that they currently produce. The flavour profiles were quite varied. They also sell lavender products such as soap and lotions that Laura makes with the lavender they grow on their farm. All in all a great experience!

Charles and Laura Lipnicki came to PEI from Ontario seeking a less stressful lifestyle. They bought a 56 acre farm in Wheatley River directly south of Rustico and named it La SERENA! How appropriate!!

These "Islanders by choice" are passionate about their organic methods and brand new Meadery which just opened this July. They grow Lavender, berries and apples. They have free range chickens, sheep and some bees although not enough to supply their needs because their mead wines are made from fermented honey.

Inside their pastoral craft shop, there is a tasting bar. Charles explains the content and flavour of each mead he serves. I was expecting sweet and was pleasantly surprised by the flavour of their honey wines- my favourite was the wildflower while the boys preferred the bolder flavour of the Hascap (a berry variety they grow).

Laura also sells lavender, honey, pottery and beautiful skeins of wool spun from their flock of sheep. She is enthusiastic about everything they do! Even the kids were captivated - they enjoyed the friendly golden lab and chasing after the chickens with Laura's grand daughter! GREAT place to spend an hour or two with these congenial hosts! Drop in between noon and 5 p.m.

We booked the Mead Mobile Tour as a fun outing while we were visiting Charlottetown. It was amazing! The weather was fabulous, the lavender smelled terrific, the sheep were baaing in the field and everyone was so welcoming and willing to answer all our questions.
The Tour itself was aboard a tractor pulled trailer, with the trailer covered to keep off the hot sun, and the wooden benches comfortable.
The tour around the 40 acre farm usually takes about 60-75 min, with several stops with tastings and seeing different areas of the farm. The different flavoured meads were delightful and Charles was very knowledgeable and willing to answer all questions. Highly recommend the tours and the taking a taste of the Island Honey Wine Company home to enjoy. Many award winning meads in the shop.
Arrive at least 15 min early. There is a nice washroom inside to use to be comfortable for the tour. Bring a water bottle if it's hot. The trailer has a step built in to make it easy on and off. You will receive a tasting glass to use on the tour and to take home with you. Perfect for Gluten Free people as all the mead is honey based, not grain based.

Do yourself a favor and make time to visit this wonderful wine company when exploring PEI. We thoroughly enjoyed the wine tasting experience and hearing all of the stories behind the origins of the company and the various wines we sampled. A sustainable and organic company producing some amazing wines! Our hostess was the owners daughter and she made each of the wines come to life with her colorful stories. Easily one of the main highlights of our visit.

Million-dollar view of beautiful, pristine PEI countryside. The mead was fabulous, a pleasant surprise to our uninformed expectations. Delicate flavours, not sweet. The owner very engaging and passionate about his farm. Well worth the time.
