We arrived well before 11:00 a.m when the doors are open, but had a good look from the outside. Not sure one should even go inside at all. Parking nearby is an issue, so be prepared for a stroll:)

Great stop for photos and to see ancient Roman ruins. Educational for the kids, as many local schools take field trips here. A small museum at the entrance. Take the walk up to enter, as there is much to see and some great views. A...More

They are ruins, no one denies that, but it is a really nice place and it allows you to dream on what it could have been. It's a very romantic place and interesting historical visit.

This suffers from lack of basic infrastructure that would make it a really fascinating visit. There is very little information. So instead of imagining the history behind the pile of stones, it remains a just a pile of stones. It was also rather dangerous in...More

There was once a beautiful castle on top of a rock, based on a roman settlement. It lasted 250 years or so and then it got destroyed. One way or the other, it never got rebuilt. You need some imagination to understand how it looked....More

We had a bit of fun trying to fine Montaigle castle at first as it wasn't on the sat-nav, but as we were about to give up we stumbled across signs to the castle. Where to park wasn't clearly marked, but we found somewhere to...More

My family stumbled upon this gem while visiting a well known abbey close by. We enjoyed roaming the ruins and learning the history of the chateau better than our original destination. A big plus was they have the literature available in English.
