About
Just a 30-minute drive away from downtown Auckland you’ll find Westbrook Winery, tucked away in the peaceful and picturesque Ararimu Valley, in the heart of Auckland’s original wine country. Set in twenty acres of idyllic park-like surroundings, Westbrook is one of New Zealand’s oldest and most respected boutique wineries. Westbrook's skilled winemakers produce iconic hand-crafted wines using both time-honoured traditional and innovative techniques. Grapes are sourced from the home estate in Waimauku and single vineyards in Waiheke Is and Marlborough, both recognised as top wine-growing regions. Westbrook's award-winning wines truly reflect the incredible depth, diversity, and flavours of Aotearoa. The Cellar Door looks down over the terraces to the pretty, brook-fed lily pond and across to the vineyard. Our friendly team is on hand to share the Westbrook story and to recommend a fabulous wine to go with a tasty wine-matched platter or pizza. Open 11am-5pm daily. KITCHEN CLOSES 4PM

My wife and I found this hidden gem after walking in the nearby Riverhead pine forest. We are almost neighbours but, for some reason, we had never travelled down this road in our rural area.

Upon arrival, it's clear that the winery oozes with class. The environment is fabulous, with a lovely view across the lilypad lake. The vines hint at a Tuscan hillside, and the location is something special.

We took the option of having a three-wine tasting session, which was unbelievable value for money. With a great selection of wines, there was something for everybody.

While we didn't eat, the food looked amazing, and we have already planned our next visit.

I would strongly recommend a visit. The service staff are really pleasant and friendly. They suggest that if we come at the weekend, we try to book first.

We were really lucky on our visit and spent a few moments with the Winemaker, who shared a taste of the day's harvested Pinot Gris grape.

A word of warning as a neighbour. There are very limited or NO taxis, Uber or the like. So make sure that you have a planned pick-up.

Strongly recommend 5/5

Visited today after being turned away from another winery due to them being busy. Even though Westbrook were fully booked, they were very accommodating and made room for us in an outside alcove, even providing blankets for the ladies in our party. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff who made us feel very welcome. We all tried a 'wine flight' of three wines of our choosing for $15 along with very tasty pizzas. Catered well for two in our party who required gluten-free meals. Thoroughly enjoyed our wines and food, which were all excellent. We also purchased other glasses and bottles of wine as we enjoyed them so much. Would definitely recommend a visit if in the area and will visit again when next in Auckland.

My wife and I learned more about winemaking from James in 45 minutes than we had learned from dozens of wine tours in the past. He’s very welcoming, knowledgeable and humorous. Despite the monsoon outside (Auckland got 200+mm rain in 36 hours), we were welcomed warmly by James and his staff. We tasted 7 wines, my favourites being 2021 Crackling Rosé and (surprise!) 2018 Riesling. A wonderful way to spend a Friday afternoon in miserable weather.

A great setting. We were there for a booked wine tasting. The woman who was our host was not interested at all. She poured the wine and disappeared. All wines were poured into the same glass - no clean glasses were offered. We ordered a platter and were given paper plates. It really felt like they were more interested in making money than serving customers.

We had lunch at this winery and we enjoyed it. This property is impeccable in the outside even in a rainy day it looks stunning. In the inside they have a couple of small tables, and the rest are a long tables that look like picnic type, quite uncomfortable. We had a cheese board for lunch and they suggested to, pairing with different wines
I wasn’t interested to drink wine that early. I find out that they don’t have a kitchen, so apart from cheese, olives, and bread, there was no more choices, apart from pizzas leftovers from the weekend. Overall it was a nice experience but they have to have more options for the public.

Thanks for taking the time to write a review. FYI we have seating inside on our covered patio for 80 people ranging from 6 large bench tables that seat 10 people to 6 smaller tables with chairs with cushions available to use for those people that like a soft seat. We also have two couches plus extra seating for 30 people upstairs on our mezzanine. All the upstairs seating is padded. We do have a kitchen and provide 7 different wine-matched platters (these include a variety of food options including a vegetarian platter, Hot-Smoked Salmon, and more) as well as 1 cheeseboard 7 days a week. We offer pizzas on the weekend. Due to Covid and our loss of overseas visitors and revenue from tourism we can't afford to offer a bigger range of food all week.

We were delighted with this winery and returned to purchase more wine. The owners and staff were extremely helpful, informative and friendly. They showed us different grapes and talked about New Zealand's culture. The wine was exceptional and the salmon was of the best we've ever tasted. We tasted mostly white wines and ordered the salmon platter.

The farm was quiet without road or city noise and very beautiful with seating outside next to water and vines, and inside. We were welcomed and invited to walk next to the vines.

One of our favourite experiences in New Zealand. Would highly recommend.

Thank you for your lovely review. At Westbrook our team is passionate about wine and this is reflected in what do from the stories we tell to the wines we produce and the many different platters that we match them to.

We had a wonderful relaxing lunch at Westbrook. We ordered a few small plates and a bottle wine, sat by the window overlooking the beautiful garden and enjoyed the atmosphere.
There is a good range of wines to choose from. We chose the Crackling Rose, which was excellent. The food menu is a bit limited and consists of pizzas, platters, and small plates. If you are after a nice nibbles selection with a good wine, then this place is for you. If, however, you are after a full meal you might be disappointed.
The place also sells their wines direct to customers and also offers wine tastings.
there are seats both indoors and outdoors. We chose to sit inside as it was a little too cold that day.

Hi - thank you so much for the awesome feedback, what a great description of our services! The Rose is a big hit for sure. We are a cellar door with food on the side, not a restaurant with wine on the side, if that makes sense, so you are correct - we don't offer a huge range of food - however what we do have available is super tasty and wine-matched and goes down a treat! Hopefully, you can come back another day when the sun is shining! - team Westbrook.

Dec 2021 • Family
We took our family from out of town to few wineries, breweries and restaurants around Kumeu yesterday, all of them but Westbrook were super friendly.

The covid restrictions are super confusing for us as most of us weren't even from Auckland, no one anywhere else asked us to have masks on as we were sitting outside but as soon as we entered this place a very rude waiting staff told us off for not wearing masks, we thought where we eat we don't need to have one, even if we do and we were breaking rules you had no rights talking to us that way. It left a bad taste in my mouth and I felt like I'm at school being told off by a horrible principal 😡
If it's so important for you guys to follow the stupid rules you should have masks at the door and ask people politely to wear them.

The service was horrible, the missed half our order, no one was friendly and it felt like none of them wanted to be there.

It's a shame as we have had an amazing experience there before covid and we really wanted our family to have a good time but they just ruined the experience.

Hi, we are sorry that your experience was not a positive one. At the time of your visit, it was mandatory to wear a mask, according to Covid protocols. You may not have been asked to wear a mask at other venues, but at Westbrook, we have consistently followed the rules in order to keep our guests and staff safe. As you can see by the many amazing reviews here and on Google, Westbrook has an awesome reputation for being a friendly and welcoming place. However, we are all human and every now and then a ball gets dropped. We hope you come back another time and we can be friends again :-) .

On a recent trip to Auckland, we made the time to drive out to Westbrook.
What we intended as a short wine tasting, turned into a lovely afternoon, with knowledgeable and friendly staff providing an expert tasting, and they talked us into staying for lunch, where we had one of the best pizzas I've had in a long time.
We left with happy memories and 3 boxes of wine.
Highly recommended!

After struggling to find somewhere to have lunch on a sunny and busy Labour Weekend we stumbled across the sign post to this winery. Nothing was too much of a problem, the staff were welcoming and despite being very busy they managed to find a table for us. The atmosphere is very family friendly with plenty of space for children to run around. The live music was a nice touch. I would definitely visit again.
