A well-preserved and renovated structure that accompanies the visitor to learn about the atrocities committed during the First World War, leading him to reflect on what happened. The ingenuity and attention paid to designing and building this artifact are astonishing. It is worth visiting it and even traveling a few kilometers to reach it.

A huge complex. Very interesting with lots of displays in the rooms. Excellent views form the top. If you have a Trentino card, entry is free.

Forte Belvedere gives a fascinating insight into the life of soldiers in the lead up, and the early years of WW1. The fort is now a museum, but still retains the feel of a building in use. The interior is not brightly lit so you can get a feel of what it would be like 100 years ago, the exhibits are not too numerous, but interesting, and the information boards are translated into English.
Some of the views from the fort are amazing, and a plus for us was the various paths back to Chiesa where we were staying, one of which takes you past trench remains and the remains of the fort's logistics centre.
There are good bus services throughout the area, and "Il Puffetta", road train will take you right to the entrance of the fort, and back if required, for only 4 Euro.
Definitely one of the highlights of our stay in Lavarone, and my wife is not usually a fan of museums.
Do not miss this if you visit Lavarone.

What an interesting fort of the WW1. The self guided tour gave an insight of life for the soldiers in the trenches and the war in the Highlands of Folgaria. Very disturbing, but a great lesson to all about what war is all about during that period.

Our Italian family took us up the hill to Forte Belverdere.
It was beautiful. There is interesting art instillation to look at.
But the winner was the gentle cool breeze that cooled us down from the heat of the day and very few tourists. Pity the bar was closed as we needed water for the children quite badly.

We decided to visit the fort whilst stopping in lake Garda and having an interest in ww1 and ww2 made the trip a no brainer. The journey up from the lower areas took a while as it is a fairly steep rd which needs a decent powered car to keep a nominal speed up, once we hit the top of the mountain the cloud swamped the views but within 10 minutes we were in the car park. It is around a 10 minute walk from the car park up a moderate slope and because of the cloud it suddenly appeared from nowhere like a set from a ghost story.
The fort is massive and has a labyrinth of passageways to take you to the outer gun placements, the main three story's are your typical military defensive build.
There are plenty of information boards and exhibits telling the tales from construction to the various different occupations over the length of the two world wars. Some items on display are a bit moving such as uniforms and personal items and the cold store and coffins for any soldiers killed on dutyis very harrowing. Will be back next time I'm in the area as there is a lot more to see on a clear day.

Didn't really know what to expect with Fort Belvedere. We had visited a couple of WW1 museums and been a bit let down, and we wern't sure how much of a "fort" this was.
Firstly the fort it's self - to a great extent the fortification is carved out of the side of the mountainside - a network of tunnels lead to firing positions and to gun turrets on the roof. The aspect of the fort facing away from the threat resembles a more traditional fort. The complex of tunnels is pretty amazing - hewn from the mountainside they lead to searchlight and gun positions which cover the valley below. Very impressive structure.
The Museum was the best by far WW1 museums we visited - everything was in English and these were not just a pile of relics or a collection of weapons - the Museum told a fascinating story of the course of the war and the impact on ordinary troops and the defenders of the fort in particular. Loads of uniforms and weapons but stories and context as well.
Add to this the location - high up in the hills with stunning views down to the valleys below. (A word of warning - from the main road the fort is signposted but the road is, after a few hundred yards, pedertrian only - there are a dozen or so parking spaces One car after another drove up the road, realised there was no further road and no parking spaces left and had to reverse out. Could be worth simply parking on the main road.)
Outside there is a smal Cafe with excellent views of the countryside.
One of the highlights of our trip - Brilliant Fortress and Supern museum.

Our trip to Forte Belvedere was a highlight of our trip! We both enjoy visiting castles and old historical sites and this visit was really enjoyable. We visited in early January and, although it was quite snowy, the roads are really well cleared all the way to the Fort car park.
You can access most parts of the original fort, which involves lots of quite steep steps and climbs, along with narrow tunnel ways. This all adds to the experience of what it must have been like for the soldiers that inhabited the fort a hundred years ago!
We only had 1.5 hours but could have done with 2.5-3 hours for a full visit...lots of historical information to read (in Italian, German and English!!!). Also enjoyed the videos and sound effects that play throughout.
Well worth the visit if you like historical buildings and war artefacts.

The visit to the castle includes a short walk amid trees which adds to its beauty. The castle itself is not particularly beautiful but the museum inside is worth the visit. So is the walk to and from which includes nice panoramas of the hills nearby the stunning Dolomite mountains in the far background.
