Bumpy road and amazing views
Oct 2021 • Friends
Must visit place when in Kazbegi!! However the road there is soo bad it was crazy. You need a 4x4 car so you can pay 20 GEL per person for someone to drive you there, the road is so bumpy it is crazy honestly never had this in my life but luckily it is not the whole road just a part of it. Survive the crazy ride and you will be rewarded with awesome views! Totally worth it.

Hiked up to the church..
Jul 2021
Lovely church at the top of the hill.. we hiked our way up to the church and the views are just beautiful.. at one point, you can start seeing Mount kazbeg playing peek a boo behind the clouds. It's worth just plonking yourself on a nice spot and watching the mountain, the horses grazing nearby and the church makes the hike even worth..

The church was filled to the brim with tourists who seem more interested in clicking pictures of the scenery than the church itself.. and because it was crowded to the brim, we made a quick exit.. overall, beautiful church and lovely views from the top..

Do not get victim of the taxi mafia
Aug 2021 • Couples
We wanted to visit the church by car. Apparently the road was closed and they told us that we need to take a taxi to get up to the church if you don‘t want to walk. It‘s not possible to take the dirt road without a taxi or a 4x4 car.
On our way back we walked on the road that was so called ‚closed,. The road was absolutly fine! The taxi mafia just closed the road so that you need to pay those taxi drivers to get you up!
The tip I can give you: we also walked another road which gets you up to the church and which you can drive by your own car but nobody tells you that because in this case the taxi drivers don‘t get your money.
When you come from Stepanzminda on the main road you should turn left to the Stepanzminda-Sameba road and follow it (the street is shown on google maps) and you‘ll get to the church without any problem and without the need of a taxi or a 4x4 car. Don‘t take the street with a parking aera on the side this is the closed road from the taxi mafia.

ABSOLUTELY BREATHTAKING!!!!
Jul 2021 • Couples
We could've easily spent an entire afternoon there, just sitting back and enjoying the beauties surrounding this spectacular Church. The simple fact that they had to build it all the way up there in the mountains is just an astonishing feat! The church itself is really beautiful, with an amazing architectural design. Both inside and outside are amazing, and the views from up there are just memorizing!

Great Views
Jul 2021
Interesting drive up to the church with a local none English speaking driver, but I guess you can tell, when abuse is being thrown about in any language, certainly gave us a talking point. The views from the church are fantastic. If you want to enter the Church you must be dressed appropriately, no shorts, etc.

Lovely view, main road is closed, 4x4 of taxi necessary
Jun 2021 • Couples
For some vague reason the recently build asphalt road was closed.. we had the feeling the locals did this to earn money with the taxi drives. They couldn’t tell us what was going on, except that the main road was closed. You can not drive up with a 2 wheel drive car over de dirt road, which is some sort of bypass. Even with a 4x4 I probably wouldn’t have dared to drive it. Because we had plans to do another long hike that day took a taxi for 70 GEL for 2 persons. The view is great from up there.

Stunning rocky climb
Jul 2021 • Family
We tried to drive up with own van but the road was too rocky, with rocks and holes even 30-40cm. It was not possible to use the regular asphalt road. We were picked up by the Delica minivan. These vans are used by locals to drive tourists up to the church. The local driver explained that asphalt road was damaged and a part of it sank, so they had to use the alternative rocky road.
The drive up is 70 GEL.
The views from the church are stunning, but you will probably not see the Kasbegi top since it is often hidden in clouds till evenings.
There are lots of tourists near the church. There were roughly 30 Delica's on the parking spot.

Must visit!
Apr 2021
It is well-visited by locals and tourists despite the off-roading required to get there. Would suggest to get a decent SUV and head over there regardless of season. Was there in winter before the pandemic, serene sweeping scenery is still a vivid memory. Highly recommended!

Gergeti
Jan 2020 • Friends
People normally travel to Gergeti for 2 reasons, to climb Mount Kazbek or see the Trinity Church. Initially it seems that its located really far away from any civilisation but you can actually see it from the main road below. Also you can hike to it within one hour so its not that remote or difficult to get to either. But it is definitely beautiful and from certain angles and in ideal weather/lights, it looks fairytale mystical. The fact that it's pictures are the main draw for people to Georgia is the proof that there is something different about it.

I've been to far more remote locations and this is a proper tourist attraction than a place of worship but still there's no way the visit to the church can be disappointing.
I mean after all these are mythical Caucasian mountains.
