Il villaggio di Pirciupiai, durante la II guerra mondiale, è stato oggetto di una strage nazista: tutti gli abitanti presenti nel paese sono stati rinchiusi nelle loro case ed a queste è stato dato fuoco. Si sono salvati soltanto coloro che erano fuori a caccia o a coltivare i campi. Un cimitero con oltre 100 croci li ricorda. Questa statua di madre che piange si trova lungo la statale, in corrispondenza dell'ingresso a Pirciupiai.
