This lake as well as the trail leading to it are just marvelous. The trail is dusty and a bit rough but I didn’t mind such adventure at all. Once you reached the lake, don’t waste a second to get into the freezing river! The water is really nice and the place is clean compared to other places in Lebanon.
I recommend that you go there on week days if you’re able because it gets really crowded on the weekends.

The road itself is an adventure (there are no fences and only for one car), so be careful and do not go late. Once you reached Jabal Moussa reserve, you pay LL 8000 and you choose which trail you want. They offer you a map. Regarding Lake Trail, there are indicators showing the way. Most of it is assured by cables. It is about 45 minutes hiking, depending on physical condition and if you have children with you. Sometimes it is steep, you have to climb, to walk on stone or wood stairs, but it really worths it. You will arrive to a wooden bridge where you can take pictures like seen on net and the lake appears in all its beauty. The last 20 minutes you will enjoy a steep descending, so dress properly and walk careful. The lake is taken from fairy tales: it color turquiose, clear water, you can see deep; you can fish also. We took a bath in its warm water. It is a reward for all your efforts. Rest and prepare for return; it will seem longer, because now you will be ascending. Remember to take water with you and some sweets to refresh your power! If you are too tired, you can remain overnight in chalets.

The drive up from the highway is ok until the last 20 mins, it becomes tight (fits 1 car) so be prepared to give way or back up a bit.
The Chouwen late is part of Jabal Moussa Nature reserve.
There is an entrance fee of LL 8000 - you are given a map and a few instructions.
The trail to the lake is marked and in some parts has metal railing on the side. It takes about 1 hour (depending on how fit you are) - there is a wooden look out point with amazing views on the way. The way back is a bit tougher as it starts with Uphill for about 20 mins.
The lake (river) is usually cold (even in summer) and at the moment no swimming is allowed as due to very heavy rains/long winter - the current is very strong.
Well worth the trip as you enjoy the nature

The trail is lovely and very clean ever since the area became part of the Jabal Moussa Reserve. 45 minutes hike to the lake then another 45 back. Beautiful scenery, lots of trees, water, flowers, plants. Take a rest by the lake and listen to the beautiful water.

If you like hiking you should try this trail. The leading roads are difficult and slippery. You should be in good shape and equipped to reach the lake. With hiking sticks it’s easier.
The result at the end is just magic.
I ‘d definitely return in summer.

I have a 1 year old toddler. My husband and I will alternate carrying him on the way to the lake. Is the safe for that or should we avoid going?

Hi
I have two boys 10&11 yo we went today, it was tiring.
If ur kid likes adventure and is fit u can go.
But the path is “dangerous”
You should have some drinks and snacks (even a sandwish if it’s lunch time) for the huge effort.
But it’s a must do.
Go for it.
