    Great
Was amazing to see just how close the train gets to the local stalls. Our tour guide told us to make sure that we don’t stand on any of the produced or knock anything over. The market was originally used by locals to buy fresh produce, and the tourist used to come just to see the train and not spend any money. So our guide mentioned that the locals are not as welcoming to tourist as other attractions. There are live fish in very small buckets of water and sometimes in almost no water. Not the nicest thing to see so just keep that in mind.

    Worth a visit
Definitely worth a visit! The train stops for a while at the end to allow you to go on and take photos etc. The market itself is very traditional with lots of locals attending. It is great to see the train and how close it gets to the stalls. The stalls are reasonably priced and the food we had was lovely!

    Well.....unique experience
Booked a private van to bring my family to the Maeklong station, left downtown Bangkok at 6.30am and reach destination at 8am. Took 30min to explore the market, some vendors were selling souvenirs at a reasonable price. Place really gets crowded when the train arrive. You can also sit inside the train station as there are stalls selling drinks. The store at the end of the station do sell nice chicken, roast pork belly price, my boys did enjoyed the food. There is a toilet at the back of the train station, but there is an entry fee..,I think is 5baht

A recommended place to visit for sure
We took a trip out of Bangkok to visit Maeklong Railway Market, a ride that is more than an hour to get there. You will need to find out the timing when the train arrives and depart in order to see how the market stallholders react to the oncoming train. It is definitely worth a visit if you have the time. Other than the railway market, we also walked around the surrounding area which is local and not touristy. While tourists are usually around the market area along the rail, we noticed that locals too buy from these stalls. A recommended place to visit for sure.

A tourist location born through social media
Without Social Media no tourist would probably drive all the way from Bangkok to come here. It was interesting to witness that just 20 min before the train arriving walking towards the market we did not see any tourist. Then suddenly the few hundred meters fill with tourists just waiting for that one picture - and yes, we did it as well and it was a nice experience but not need to have when coming to Bangkok

    Cool experience
Well worth the effort to get there, really Interesting town and market beyond the train tracks. The train coming through the market area was bonkers. Did a combined trip with floating market which was a waste of money and time.

Must plan the time well. 1130am affords two train sightings
This is another colourful outing. It is very interesting that the train is within inches from you, and you are able to hi-5 with the train passengers through the window. Do not be afraid. The train moves very slowly and there is actually a "train master" walking 30 meters in front of the train. Before going, the visitors must note the times of the train passing. We had the opportunity of having the train 'coming into' Maeklong at around 1130am and witnessing the train 'moving out' of Maeklong at around 1150am. So please plan your times. 2 hours from bangkok to maeklong is ample time.

A bit of a trek but an experience worth having
An hour out of Bangkok, we opted for the 9am (ish) train which made for an early start. A private guide made it easy and we tagged this on to Floating markets, which made a nice day out in the countryside. If you on your own find a safe space to stand and the stall holders don’t mind, some object to you blocking potential sales.

    Pretty Darn Close!
Yeah, this is a pretty funky, don't stick out your belly kind of experience. If you don't stand behind the painted, red line or think it's funny to stick out your belly, your hand, or whatever, you will likely end up in severe pain because the Maeklong Railway train really does come that close to whatever is on either side of it. Vendors in the market quickly pull their awnings & items-for-sale in close & away from the tracks, yell at folks who are trying to take selfies on the tracks & fortunately, the train moves along verrry slowwwly. Don't forget to buy one or two items here, whether it be fresh veggies, herbs, souvenirs, lunch & help keep the vendors in business. Prices are very good although they don't bargain a well here as at other markets.

Very interesting market. You have to go!
The train comes every 30 minutes and the shops have to move everything around as the train is literally inches from the shops. As far as the market, it’s all tourist trap made in china stuff. Tropical fruits are great!

We got the train from bankalong to the market. We had to stand in a packed cabin in the boiling heat 37C for 30 minutes. The train has no air con just a couple of ceiling fans some of which don’t work. If you struggle in the heat like I do avoid the train. Once we got to the market it was a great experience.

A good experience and interesting location. The market does have a variety of stalls, and some really good cafes for amazing Lemon soda or iced coffee.

The shelter which the stalls offer keep you sheltered from the heat, topping 38 when we went. The shops are full of classic tourist tat and local food produce. Definitely something for everyone

When the train comes everyone moves out the way and out come the camera phones. I would advise taking your photos or videos for the first time, and second just enjoy it and be in the moment.

Definitely a worthwhile trip and a tick off the list.

We visited Maeklong train market after our Damneon floating market. Do check out the train arrival and departure time. We reach before 2.30pm to watch the train arrival. Then the train will park at the station and leave at 3.30pm. During this time you can take a lot of pictures of the train and railway. Weather is hot, luckily coconut and other drinks selling here are cheaper.

Definitely worthwhile to visit - please note that it is 1 - 2 hours away from your hotel (subject to the location of your hotel) - the market is nice (not only souvenirs) and we had a nice lunch in the first restaurant at the track - certainly , it is an interesting moment to see the train passing by very slowly but after that everything finished and most of the tourists disappear

About one and half hours to the market from Bangkok city. You have to select the preferred time to catch the train. Schedule is uploaded .

Obviously lots of tourists come here as it’s completely’nuts’. You walk along a resin track with an Abu dance of food, spice, clothes, gifts and pretty much everything to buy and every half an hour they pull back the canopy’s sheltering the food etc do the train can pass. Sure it’s touristy but also you see locals shook g for fish , veg etc . There was another sort of one like this In Hanoi but not half as good. A must see. I hope it doesn’t get less local and more touristy though .

This is an absolutely fascinating sight. There is an extensive market that goes right up to the rails of an active railway line. A few times a day a train comes through and the market traders move their produce away from the track, the train goes through and the traders mover their produce back and continue as if nothing ha happened. I would advise visiting with a tour guide who can recommend where best to watch the spectacle. You need be sure to time your visit for when a train is passing through. There is a good cafe alongside the track and, of course, many market stalls.

Amazing market!! It’s an experience. Try to schedule time that train arrives so you can see the madness of crowds taking pictures and going crazy. The market is great! You have to see it to believe it. So much fun!

It really is a unique experience to be so close to a train while shopping in a market. But .. I must say because there are so many others trying to witness it at the same time it ruins the fun. If you don’t have a good spot then you can’t get a good shot for your camera. Also, you can’t go early and camp because when the train comes everyone is scrambling to find a spot which means you may have to make room for others anyway. The best solution is to eat a restaurant beside the track and time it so the train passes while you are there.

Maeklong Station/Market is so much fun! It was such an amazing experience being in the middle of the market as the train goes by. This is also a great place to buy mangosteens, one of the most fresh I’ve ever tried!
