Parit Jawa is a small fishing village in the Muar District, Johor, Malaysia. It is just half an hour leisure drive from Muar Town. A very quite fishing village. Good place for photography, bird watching and seafood.

A small town with an adjacent fishing village near Muar, East yo get to from Muar - about 10km and 15/20 minute drive.
Fascinating in some ways to see the completely different style and tone of this small pace compared even to Muar. And it really is a fishing village - when we went the tide was out and there must have been at least 100 fishing boats moored up at both sides of the river banks. Quite surprising to see so many. And colourful.
Parking is easy and their are some local cafes if you want tea, coffee, snacks or a good seafood meal

Parit Jawa is a quiet fishing village Southeast of Muar and easily accessible from the road number 5. The main reason to visit it is to have a great seafood meal in its several local restaurants. If you have children there is a playground area. It could be very hot and also muggy during the day so the best time to visit is at the end of the day to contemplate the sunset at the sea. There is a small pier where boats are anchored and a tower whose upper level can be reached climbed up stairs.

We were looking for a well-known seafood restaurant and about 15km drive from Bandar Maharani in Muar came across this fishing village called Parit Jawa. We got there around 6pm and it was really quiet with many fishing boats docked and the road along the river (where the boats were docked) deviod of human activities except for a warung. At the suggestion of a friendly local who was getting on his motor bike we drove on past the warung towards the seafront, passed a Tien Chu (Mazu) temple. The road came to a square of sorts at the waterfront and in front was a beautiful scene of a sun setting behind a mangrove swamp. To our right was a complex of 3 seafood eating places (all of which seem to be specializing in fish head curry).

If you were expecting a beach, with people swimming and kids making sandcastles, you will be sorely disappointed.

Pantai Leka /Parit Jawa is a fishing jetty for local fisherman. It is not really a tourist attraction. But tourists may find the following interesting:

1. Try local food at the various food stalls. Parit Jawa is famous for a dish called Assam Pedas, which is fish cooked in a chilli-based gravy. It is eaten with white rice. Although you can get this dish anywhere in malaysia, the muar version is well known.
2. Take photos of/with local fishing boats
3. Bird watching. This mangrove area is known to be visited by migratory birds.
4. On a clear day, you can see Indonesia (Sumatera) across the Straits of Malacca!

Pleasant enough. But not worth a specific day out.
