How do the Norwegians manage to construct wooden buildings that last over 800 years? It's simply amazing! This stave church was built around 1180 by traveling tradesmen. The majority of this type of church were built between 1130 and 1350, when the Black Death brought...More

Walk around, do the trails - there are stunning views around, but don't pay 90 nok each (!) To see the inside of this church. There is nothing there.

While we know that every Stave Church is different in its own way, this stave church is absolutely brilliant, so beautiful, no matter you view from which angle. Especially when you taking photos of it together with the surrounding landscape. Definitely a must visit. The...More

You need to enter through the museum then walk across the road to the church. If you can time it to avoid a tour bus load of people, there is plenty of space and time to walk around inside ( these stave churches are small...More

If you are in Laerdal, you must visit Borgund Stave Church. It is beautiful, and you can almost feel the presence of the ancient church-crowd.

For a place as fascinating as this, it's extremely hard to find any good info on how to get there. The cheapest option, bus, is not well written and limits your flexibility. What I find instead is a borgund and snow road tour on "Flam...More

This is not easy to get to, but if you can go see this. I was on a cruise ship and took the ship's tour to see this stave church. The drive to and from was fantastic, and the church itself is wonderful. The sense...More

If you want to see a stave church and this is your only chance, it may be worth doing but there is not really a lot to see inside. I found the tombstones more interesting than the church; stave churches are very dark inside it...More

Beautiful, perfectly preserved, it looks like it looked a millenium ago. The way Norway people take care of their patrimony is an exemple for everyone. It's not show off, the visitor center is great, unobstructive and interesting, you don't feel like you go in Disneyland....More

This 1100's stave church is quite a sight.Built when vikings were changing to Christianity but still wanted to cover their bases by putting some pagan symbols on the church.
