I can stare at the views the whole day! If you don't have time to do the cruise, do this one instead. In fact I've talked to people at the tour who are doing only this instead. The views at the top are soooooo beautiful!

We visited in September 2018, a mini bus took us up from the tourist centre in Flam. The weather was warm and sunny so we were able to enjoy the most spectacular views up and down the fjord. We also looked down on some wispy...More

We visited in November 2018 on a very misty day, in Flam we couldn't see more than 10 metres in front of us but we knew there was beautiful blue sky just above the mist so we headed up to Stegastein Viewpoint. Easy drive from...More

We caught a tourist bus from Aurland to the Stegastein lookout. It is 650 metres above sea level and the walk to the end of this well designed platform provides for a spectacular view over the fjord and the mountains.

I booked a tour bus to go to this platform that offers wonderful views of the world below. The drive itself is an adventure with a tiny skinny mountain road that switchbacks its way upward. I went on a rainy October day and at first...More

I biked to Stegastein Lookout from Flåm. It was a very hard 10 miles but so worth it! If you do bike here be very careful because the road is one lane wide for both directions of traffic and pedestrians/bikers. The viewpoint offered amazing views...More

Best timing for Flam activities (1 Replies)
Hello, We will arrive in Flam 1325 on the ferry from Balestrand and will spend the afternoon and next morning there before catching the ferry to Gudvangen. While in Flam we would like to do the railway trip and a bus trip to Stegastein lookout. Would we be better to do the train trip in the afternoon and Stegastein in the morning or vice versa (taking into account minimising crowds and best lighting for photos)? We will be there in July. Also, would we need to book the Stegastein...More

Driving from Solvorn to Bietostolen- Route advice (8 Replies)
After spending a few days in Bergen we are renting a car, driving to Solvorn, staying a few days, then driving to Bietostolen. We are traveling the first week of June. On the way to Solvorn, we are thinking of detouring to the Stegastein Lookout before we catch our 6:00pm ferry from Gudvagen to Kaupanger. I'd like to travel some of the snow road to Laerdal and then back to Gudvagen. Is this achieveable in the amount of time we have? What is a scenic route we could take between Solvorn...More

When in Solvorn, the most obvious would be to continue route 55 Sognefjellet National Tourist Route to Lom and drive to Beitostølen on route 51.

Recommended Stops Oslo - Flam (2 Replies)
We arrive Oslo at 2pm May 30 and are immediately renting a care and driving to Flam. Knowing what a long trek it is, does anyone have any recommendations for a couple stopping points to break up the drive? Lunch in Fla or Nesbyen? A visit to Borgund Church? Would we arrive too late to enjoy the Stegastein lookout? (The snow road will still be closed from what I understand though. ??) Food or sight recommendations are much appreciated! Also, can anyone comment on if it is a difficult drive...More

Thanks for the input iverh! Routes 7 and 50 are definitely different from what Google maps was telling us, so thank you for the suggestion. The church seems like a great stop!
