We hiking at Udzungwa Mountain National park and Safari to Mikumi organized by Halisi African Adventures. Starting with the punctual pickup at the airport, to the professional morning pre-safari breafing, to the organized kite-luggage storage, everything worked according to plan and on time. A top organization.
At this point I would like to make a special mention of our knowledgeable tour guide Wilson with his extremely courteous, calm manner we felt safe and comfortable at all times. He drove us safely and was very knowledgeable about flora and fauna.
He knows his job very well and you can see that he is very passionate about it.
With his incredible knowledge about the animals, nature and culture of Tanzania.
He answered all kinds of questions or shared his knowledge with us.
We definitely recommend Halisi African Adventures.

This park deserves much more attention. I realize people come to Tanzania to see the savannah parks and the Big 5 but if you are looking for a more quiet experience of magnificent rainforest/jungle, you should definitely visit Udzungwa NP. We had two one-day hikes (one of them Sanje Falls) and enjoyed both of them. The falls are spectacular and so is the view over the valley below. Look for the 'small stuff' - birds, butterflies, hyraxes, etc. and be mindful and you will be rewarded. We had an excellent guide (I mean, really excellent) - his name is Bernard, he is very knowledgeable and also he is simply a very nice person to walk with. He was also kind enough to help us get bus tickets to Morogoro and arranged for accommodation for other tourists. The only drawback of Udzungwa NP is few places to stay - if you are not loaded with cash and cannot afford Hondo Hondo, you are pretty much left with Twiga Hotel (run by the government and not very efficiently but generally OK) or some guesthouses in Man'gula centre (which are not online and may be difficult to book in advance). Maybe there are other places in villages further from the park HQ (located in Man'gula) but I am not sure.

Wonderful hike, a beautiful place for swimming under a waterfall. A guide is needed. I recommend trail the Sanje waterfall and especially with the guide Renata. Professional support all the way, she show to us many animals, beautiful places near the waterfall. Very very nice lady.

We did the hike to the Sanje Waterfall . The 550 foot drop is fantastic. It is the longest waterfall in Tanzania. The hike is fairly strenuous, but several 70 year olds made it. There are lots of birds and monkeys with a number of them being endemic. We saw the Iringa red colobus. Well worth the hike. The trail is well maintained.

We did the Sanje Falls circuit. It was beautiful and very pleasant, althougt really hot - take a lot of water!
The price though was ridiculous, so if you are on a low budget - it's not worth the price!
It's a recurrent topic in Tanzania: if you charge me 48 USD (park fee, compulsory guiding fee, VAT) for a 3h walk to a waterfall, which anywhere else would be for free, I expect a red carpet and a cable car to take me there.
Instead, there are some old and non-informative signs, paths are maintained reasonably, but still some trunks laying across the path. There is some railing with nails protruding upwards, asking me to impale my hand on them.
Then, the guide - a charming and helpful young man with some command of English, and some factual knowledge - expecting a good tip, as he is a VOLUNTEER.
Now I ask - who stole my money?

The hike was ok but, much like most of Tanzania, best to avoid it. It took about 30 minutes to pay the park entrance fee, due to the grosse inefficiency (there were no other people there), and the cost was close to $40 per person. The hike up was ok but at the end we tipped the guide 10 000 Shillings and he claimed that that was not enough and wanted more, and claimed that he wasn't paid by the park, even though we paid $20 for him. The Tanzanian travelling with us stated that this was ridiculous and that the tip was vey generous. Just another example of a local attempting to rip off a tourist.

The circuit hike is longer and slightly more difficult than up and back to the falls, but we had a wonderful guide (Petu) and saw giant millipedes, a black mamba snake, three types of monkeys...then enjoyed a much-needed swim in the pool underneath the third falls. A magical and tiring day!

Easy walk up, about 45 minutes. Had the entire waterfall - top - to ourselves. The view is beyond words. You feel like you can see the curvature of the earth. A close 2nd to Victoria Falls.

fantastic area to hike, not very touristic, great scenery walk, you can get lucky and get some elephants on the way.
no facilities within the area so get yourself ready with food, drinks etc.
limited accommodations nearby, but the existing spot are quite sufficient for either bungalow or tent camping.

Nature at its best!!!! You need to walk uphill for about two hours to reach the top but what awaits you is the most spectacular view ever!!!!!!!!! The cataracts are breathtaking!!!!!! Did the Sanje Falls this time but will definitely do the two day stint and sleep in tents in the park next time.

Hi,
Udzungwa Mountains is a land national park, not marine park.
can't recall exactly the charges, but quite low (something around $15-$20 maybe).
hope that helps :)
