An Empty Thomb
Jan 2016 • Solo
Most of people go through this Memorial hundreds times, but few of them know this point what it exactly is. They figure here as a normal corner nearby Cheng-Chung Elementary School, or they don't really remember this view of landmark which they pass everyday.

This Monument is recording a famous French Genral, Amédée Courbet (1827-1885), the Command of Far East Squadron, had a series of fierce battles with Qing Dynasty of China from 1884 to 1885, as known as "Sino-French War" in history.

In the late war, some battles happened in Penghu (Pescadores campaign), Courbet's warships occupied in Penghu successfully, but unfortunately, the cholera attracked several French soldiers and sailors then they died, including of their command.

The war ended in April 1885, after French and Qing Dynasty made a Treaty of Tientsin, French "Bayard" left Pescadoes, to take Courbet's body back to France for a funeral. Left Coubet's clothes in Pescadores only, just this memorial is an empty thomb ever buried Courbet's some remains.
