I went on a 3 day hiking trip in the Appalachian mountains with Francisco. He was a wonderful guide, very informative and his enthusiasm and love of the outdoors is infectious. He made sure we were comfortable (as comfortable as you can be in the wild) and safe, and he cooked and cleaned for all meals, which you can’t beat!
I chose the portered hike, glad I did as no way I could have carried more weight. The hike up to Cold Mountain was very challenging, but everyone was allowed to go at their own pace, so I never felt rushed or pushed.
Getting to the top of the mountain was extremely gratifying, the views are spectacular and it was worth all the sweat and work. Anytime I would get tired, I would stop for a minute and just look at where I was at. I was in the wild, and every view was amazing; the tall trees, the variety of flowers and plants, the birds and wildlife, that serenity is something you can’t find in the “real world”. On our last hike, we even had opportunity to see a rattle snake and that was really cool to me. Again, Francisco is a wealth of knowledge about the area, and I appreciated learning about plants, fungi, and animals that call this place home.
I’m appreciative of the experience , even though it was a little more strenuous than I thought it would be. It was a challenge that I wanted and I feel proud of my accomplishment. I’m 51 years old by the way, I walk and exercise often but not a lot of hiking opportunities in Iowa:)
I would definitely recommend this company if you want to experience the outdoors safely. If you are able to have Francisco as your guide, know you are in good hands.
Thank you for an awesome experience I will never forget!

This was the paddle and hike adventure. We kayaked across Lake Fontana at the base of the Smokies, and then camped for two days. We explored a town that was abandoned when the TVA built Fontana dam, and we also did a six mile hike along Hazel Creek.
The campsite on Hazel creek was great. The creek is very cold and rushes over rocks so we had that wonderful rushing water sound that made for wonderful sleep. We were a short walk from a swimming hole in the lake. The group was fun, the food was yummy, and the scenery was spectacular.
What made the trip amazing, though, was our guide, Amanda. She was constantly hustling, giving us encouragement on our hikes, engaging us in cheery conversation, checking on our tents and sleeping gear, and cooking our meals. She would show us snails, birds, mushrooms, deer, butterflies and even one very large spider. Her enthusiasm for the woods was contagious. Amanda turned a great camping trip into an Amazing Amanda Adventure.
Wildland Trekking does things right.

Tommy is a fantastic guide! Wildland is lucky to have him. He made sure the entire group’s needs were met no matter the weather conditions and always had first class meals ready. You will not go hungry on a Wildland trip! Gregory Bald was the highlight of this route to me. Absolutely beautiful views! Saw many different types of wildlife and Tommy took time to point out the different types of plants and wildlife on trail that I would have missed otherwise. Great trip and company!

Just finished a 3 day hiking trip in Tennessee and North Carolina. Weather unfortunately was an issue with rain and cold temperatures on subsequent days, but our guide, Stuart improvised a wonderful itinerary of hikes. She was very friendly and knowledgeable, and was attentive to and concerned about the welfare of everyone in our group. Our accommodations were surprisingly luxurious and meals at the Dancing Bear Lodge were terrific.
The company provided day packs and hiking poles to those who needed them, making travel for some guests much easier, and lighter.
Materials sent prior to the trip regarding training regimens and packing suggestions were greatly appreciated.
Health screening was also done to ensure everyone's fitness and safety in participating.

Had a fabulous hiking/camping trip with Stuart as the guide. Her meals were fresh and delicious, and she accommodated diverse dietary needs. My sleeping bag had a broken zipper, so I was freezing for one night, but the company had another bag hiked in for the second night. She was quite flexible with plans and adjusted according to the needs of the group. Great trip overall.

Samantha was a great guide. We had individuals from age 17 to 73 and she did a great job of accommodating all of us and keeping it challenging without excluding anyone. The food was great and we were "promised" a cook book soon

Last week I did Wildland's Fall Colors in the Smokies with their guide Francisco. It was a beautiful trip. I traveled solo and it's a roll of the dice who your fellow travelers will be, but we had a great group. The weather was unseasonably cold and the first night temps went down to 9 with the wind chill. Francisco is so experienced (Triple Crown Hiker), I felt completely safe in every way. I was really impressed how keenly aware he was of where everyone was at, physically and mentally, and how he kept everyone relaxed and entertained while he did basically all of the work, catering for 7 people single-handedly. It's a special person that can deal with all of that. I used a combo of my gear and theirs which was fine. Food was delish. And the Smokies are complete heaven. Do the training. I didn't have time to do all of it, but was so jazzed to be there it didn't matter.

I would recommend Wildland Trekking to anyone looking to adventure with others. Definitely take the training regimen for the backpacking trip seriously and make sure you are ready for a fun trip. Our guide John Pate was personable, knowledgeable, and a fantastic chef. From our first meeting, he put us all at ease that we were going to have a great time. The meals he cooked were way beyond my expectations and little did I know he is a master pedicurist. I'd recommend him to any group or adventure.

We got really lucky with the weather and colors of the fall foliage - a little early just for us! Francisco, our guide, was amazing - we learned so much about the flora and fauna of the area as well as some great history. The food was a nice surprise - he did a great job accommodating our diet needs and his cooking was top notch. The booking team was very responsive and proactive when suggesting what trip levels we should do and considerations for prep for the trip. Highly recommend following the training suggestions but still doable if you're at least moderately in shape, just prepare for a challenge. I will definitely book with Wildland for my next trekking adventure!

Kyle was EXCELLNT!!!! He was very well prepared, explained everything we would need, was prompt when he picked us up and made the whole trip very enjoyable. The lunch he prepared was perfect as well. I would highly recommend Kyle as your guide.

Also, the views along the Appalachian trails was amazing. It is one thing to see these sites from a car. It is totally different when you are walking through the mountains and actually being part of the scenery. It was an amazing trip!!
