    Breathtaking views
It's a must visit when in Kashmir. The crowd is less as many people flock to gulmarg. The view of meadows and snow capped mountains are breathtaking. One can use either an ATV or pony ride up to the waterfall.

    Great Experience. Must Visit.
Beautiful and stunning landscape in the winter, with the snowfall. We used ATVs to go around and get to the lake and it was a great experience. I think the spring and summer months would be great as you will see flowers on the fields, making the whole landscape completely different.

    Magical Doodhpathri in March'24
This is a must visit during your trip to Srinagar. The pristine snow covered meadows lead upto the Shaliganga river. We took a pony ride there and other available options are all terrain vehicles or trekking up the 4km route. You need to bargain hard and we managed to finally agree at Rs 1500 per horse, which is decent considering the peak tourist season. The horsemen were very courteous and helpful, clicking umpteen photos and videos, they also give you as much time as you want to explore each spot. It's a 2 hour drive from Srinagar. There are small shacks selling local Kashmiri fare.

We were advice to this beautiful place but when we reached the car or tempo traveler was not allowed to go beyond the point and the only option you have is ATV or small horse. ATV union running is biggest scam there they fool you with any price and gives you promises that driver will be with you full time he will help you with 6 sight seeing, you will be able to self drive the ATV & they will take the 100% advance. Now they play with you big time. They drop you at one stop and ask you to come back at given time. Now when you come they are not there and they come after 2-3 hours you wasted your entire day doing nothing. When you ask question they threaten you stating they will not take you back. Avoid taking this place as you are spending so much better take extra day at palgam or Gulmarg or sonmargh. There is no government authority so you are alone with those goons of local villagers. #bycotdoohpathri

One of the virgin tourist place of the valley. It’s approximately, 2hr drive from Srinagar. ensure mobile/ cameras in full charging, or else one will miss capturing of scenic beauty of the cliff’s and valleys.
Better go with a good batch of 6 to 10, one can enjoy out door games. Carry eatables and sufficient water. Most important sight seeing is View point and “tree on rock “. Hire pony for a reasonable bargain.
One can enjoy upto 3pm in clear sunny days.

Couple of hours drive from Srinagar, this place is as good as Gulmarg. Beautiful Green Meadows, River, forests, mountains... everything you need. Add to it horse ride, which is a must to enjoy it. You can also see a point where Raazi movie shooting took place.

Note for Horse riding we paid Rs 1500 per horse, which is on higher side, but they took us with longer route (others were taken on shorter route), and given us freedom to stop at any point and take our own time. It took us around 4 hours.

This not very touristy place is located about 2 hours away from Srinagar. The roads are not in the best condition but would highly recommend this day trip. Once you’re there, you’re surrounded by rolling meadows, sheep and horses with snow capped peaks in the distance. This is probably the best place for a short horse ride. Locals are much nicer than Sonmarg or Gulmarg. Make sure you visit the quaint Gujjar huts and if possible go down to the river. Also, take some time to enjoy a quick picnic at one of the roadside vendors - hot makai ki roti with condiments like haak saag + onion chutney + pickle and Maggi :)

Doodhpatri waterfall point is the main attraction in the Doodhpatri region. It's not a waterfall per say, but river Shaliganga flows through rocks and seems like milk, hence the name doodhpatri. By default, one has to park a car or bus in the parking lot (Doodhpatri park). All the things are governed by locals. They normally don't allow vehicles to pass through as they want tourists to use their horses/ponies or cabs. It's less than 2km walk from parking to the actual Doodhpatri Shaliganga river view point. It takes about 45 min of walking. Pony/horse ride prices range from 500 to 1500, depending on how much you bargain. If you don't show any interest at all, they also let you know way ride or small distance pony rides in 100 rupees. It feels like Switzerland or any other developed country hill station full of trees, valleys, rivers, small waterstreams, mountains laden with snow, etc.

Desecrated by tourists and Ponywallahs. Vehicles go to the end - upto Shaliganga. Insist upon your taxi operator or else he can connive with ponywallah to get you to pay hefty amount. We had to walk the entire length only because we had no idea if the vehicles go to the last point. The first meadow at the pony point is the only place worth watching. Otherwise there is only hype of other places upto Shaaliganga.

During our recent visit to Kashmir we were supposed to take a day trip from Srinagar to Gulmarg. However, the Gondola there was closed for maintenance and hence we decided to visit Doodhpatri. First of all the drive there is not pleasant. It is only 45 kilometers away but takes two hours due to bad roads. Once you get there you have the option of going on an ATV ride or a horse ride. If you don’t want to do either, there is nothing else to do there. You will be swamped by vendors trying to get you to hire them for the rides or take your photographs. The area appears very touristy and the natural beauty of the area takes a back seat . Even if you decide to take the horse or ATV ride, there is not much to see there for all the effort except a small stream. After a long journey to get to Srinagar, this trip sapped all our energy and enthusiasm for Kashmir. We were left wishing we should have just stayed back in Srinagar and enjoyed the hotel.
