This castle is the largest ruin in the whole of Central Europe. The only problem is that, if you do not have a car, ten there is a 1-hour walk from the nearest city (Spissky Podhardie). There are not taxies around and the way there has no sidewalks either. So, be cautious and plan your trip for a 1-hour walk plus 2-3 hours of castle trip.

Lucky for us it was a clear blue sky which allowed us see the castle in all its glory. Approaching the castle up the steep path from the car park allows you to appreciate its size and history.

We spent a couple of hours wandering around taking in what can only be described as a wonderful piece of Slovakian history. From the museum exhibits to climbing up the narrow staircase to the top of the tower, wandering around the lower castle grounds you can’t help but be in awe of this castle.

We loved it...💙

Visiting Swiss Castle means a walk uphill. The caste is huge and has a fascinating history. Summer 2023 a part of the castle was closed due to reconstruction. Nonetheless we could have a nice walk over the ramparts. A most friendly young guide explained what we can see and showed us the 3d virtual reality viewer film about the castle. We found the small café overpriced.

The castle is unique and has a fascinating history, hence the 3 stars. However, it deserves better presentation. The app that was supposed to guide us around never managed to download its data so we (and many others) gave up after a number of attempts. The causeway leading up to the castle was so slippery that even sporty hikers like myself expected to fall anytime - elderly people or those carrying a baby must have been petrified. Finally, there must be endless stories to tell about the castle’s inhabitants through the centuries, but very little of this was apparent to the visitor. So, a wonderful site, but much work remains for the authorities to let the castle shine and truly appeal to the large number of people visiting.

The castle is impressive in the landscape. From the outside you can perceive its power.

That said, it's not worth visiting inside. Everything is under construction and you can only access the lower patio. To see that, the price of the ticket seems disproportionate to me, and it is somewhat reduced due to the works.

If you compare the price with other places with guided tours, numerous rooms and period furniture (such as Kamen Castle or the Andrassy House Museum), it is bloody low.

It's a very big castle with souvenir shops and a cafe. There is also a wall that overlooks the town of Spišské Podhradie. The castle was very nice inside but unfortunately some areas were closed due to construction but I would definitely return when construction finishes

If you are a medieval history - or just castle - freak this is Must Be in Slovakia. If you only likes great views with space to rest and chillout on the grass - still it is Must Be ;) but... check The weather first. 8 euro enter for adult, 20 euro for Group of 4.

One of the recommended castles to visit in Slovakia. A large castle, impressive and amazing in its beauty. One should devote at least an hour and a half to the visit in order to enjoy all corners of the place. Recommended for a visit with children. It should be taken into account, there is a sharp rise from the parking lot to the entrance of the castle.

The castle is quite interesting if fairly empty. There are several helpful signs and markers in English. The castle is largely reconstructed. It was very hot the day we visited and there is little relief (shade) from sun. Small shop does have water and rest rooms are adequate if dated. There was a fencing exhibition at 11 AM, which seemed like a regular event. It was entertaining if a bit long.
This is one of the largest and best castles in a country full of them. You might want to skip some of the others and go here instead. If you've visited several others, then feel free to skip this one.
