On arrival at the farm we were greeted by
Louise cannot rate her highly enough! She was extremely welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable. A lovely picturesque ranch 3 cute dogs, a chicken and goats, pony’s donkeys and of course beautiful horses.

My parent and I were suited to our horses (Babeta & Honey) according to riding experience and along with 2 other riders Louise guided us for 2 hours through beautiful scenery to the coastal path which had a fantastic view of secluded beaches while Louise took care of our comfort and loan took pictures.

My horse Babeta was perfect, so calm and I felt very confident especially as it was my first ever time riding.

Highly recommended, definitely going back.
Once in a lifetime priceless experience.

I've never rode a horse before, so the activity was perfect for me. Louis at Tara is very calm, helpful and warm person, willing to help and make your trip as unforgettable as possible. We were riding horses slowly with people walking by our sides, two times we also had a quick run. We went towards the sunset, close to the beaches. Super nice evening! The best is that horses are from refugee camps and are very nicely trained!

Granja Tara is a Horse Rescue Ranch. You can find mostly old and pretty relaxed horses here.
The resources needed to run the place are generated by charity and the tourists (that would be us *G*) that book an excursion on horseback.
The usually 2+ hour trips in the surounding landscape are good for beginners as well as horseman, and horsewomen of course, who are more experienced.

If you like a nice ride and/or want to meet beginner friendly horses, this is the place to visit.

Granja Tara is just beside the windmill at El Roque.
Appointments are made by phone. They speak Spanish, German, English.

My friend and I both wanted to try the horse riding, and the hotel helped us book Granja Tara. It seemed expensive at 55 euros each, and we were unsure what to expect, but we went anyway. I'm so glad we did!

The minibus arrived to collect us bang on time, and we were driven to Granja Tara, a way out of town, to the stables and animal rescue centre. As riders, we were a mixed bunch. I can ride comfortably up to a canter, two of our party had ridden before but not much, and one lady who arrived on crutches, suffering with arthritis, had never ridden before and confessed she was so nervous she felt sick!

The stables owners, Fanny and Miriam, could not have been better. The horses were fit and healthy and beautifully cared for. We were all helped to mount, and started off at a walking pace through the rather wild landscape, with Miriam walking alongside, giving us a guided tour, and at the same time, making sure everyone was taken care off and felt good. From time to time, she would tell me where I could safely leave the group and go off on a trot or canter on my own, while taking care to attend to the other riders and their needs.

The trek was around two hours altogether, was a wonderful experience, and we saw the most spectacular scenery as we passed by the beaches , following the clifftop path the get the best view. Sadly, the horses are not allowed on the beach!

Each one of us, regardless of riding ability, had an excellent time, fitted to our own very varied levels of expertise. The lady who had started on crutches had the biggest smile, was glowing with the pleasure of the experience, and pride in her achievement.

It was well worth the money, a joyous experience I will always remember, assisted by the plethora of photographs that Miriam took of us! And I notice from the brochure that Granja Tara also do a “ride and swim special”, involving first the horse trek then a trip down to beach to swim – I shall certainly try that next time! Well recommended.

We done the Sunset Horse Ride on our last night in Fuerteventura, and we're so glad we did! Fantastic experience! It's great that the horses are all rescues as well. The guides (and others at the ranch itself) were very friendly and put us both at ease, even though we were a bit nervous next to the cliff edges - we're certainly not pros, and beginners are definitely welcome. The views are absolutely stunning! It is 55 Euro each, however you spent a good 1.5/2 hours on the horse and it's worth every penny! When we got back to the ranch, we were offered a wee' drink and we sat for a little while, chatted, and met some of the other rescue animals, including dogs, cats, chickens and a grumpy little piglet, haha. Definitely recommend!

Not experienced at all we really enjoyed the ride and felt super safe at all moment .
It is really suitable for beginner like us and the area is super nice to go around with a super cool spot to make pictures.
The ranch is a nice place in itself with super friendly dog and impressive piggies:)

I decided to go on a hack after reading lots of positive reviews and I have to say they were all spot on.

Fanny was extremely welcoming from her first email through to dropping me back to my apartment.

Although I’m an experienced rider (own my own thoroughbred & ride on average 3 times a week) there was still the perfect horse for me! Anaika is a Spanish sports horse & she is beautiful! Super sensitive and forward going so just perfect for me!

The rest of the group booked in with me had no experience and ideally next time I will be more organised and ensure I book so I can ride with more experienced group but that said Fanny was more than happy to let me ride on ahead for some beautiful trots & little canters which I thoroughly enjoyed but also I enjoyed the relaxed pace of walk just enjoying the scenery & atmosphere. Ana was much faster paced than the other horses in the group so it was like enjoying a fab solo hack much of the time although Fanny kept me informed of where it was safe to canter etc & gave me directions.

Fanny looked after the group amazingly well with her assistant and the group seemed to be having a real giggle.

Upon our return we had a little picnic & beers and I got chance to meet some more of the animals (lots of sweet rescues)

All in all the experience made my holiday & I will definitely be booking up next year to hopefully do a beach ride.

Whether you are a complete novice or like me I’d say give it a won’t regret it!

I booked a two hour ride at Gran Taraja and was delighted with the results. This was my second visit in four years and the service was as good as the first time.

The ride included a mix of rider ability, but each was catered for. During the first hour there were multiple opportunities for experienced riders to trot, canter and gallop ahead which was fab. Guides stayed on foot and on horseback by the less experienced riders ensuring all the horses were well behaved. The second hour was along the cliff tops, where Miriam took photos of us all and them sent them later by whatsapp, making sure I had a reminder of my trip. I rode Casper who was a delightful ride.

On returning to the stables, we were offered drinks & snacks which was very thoughtful. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely be back.

We visited for a ride at the start of our stay in El Cotillo. Immediately I had a nice feeling about Granja Tara with all the little animals wandering about and the horses looking relaxed and very healthy. Miriam and Fanny spent time finding out our different levels of riding experience and matched us both with our horses. My horse was a most beautiful and sensitive Spanish Sport Horse who had come from an unkind home. She was so responsive and intelligent to ride! Miriam managed our group of riders very well, enabling me to go out in front whilst the rest of the group went in walk and trot. We visited the cliff and Miriam took photos for everyone. We would greatly recommend a visit - we’ll certainly be back when we’re next in El Cotillo.

My 11 year old daughter and I arrived at Granja Tara to be greeted by lovely Miriam who took her time to chat with us, get to know us a little and introduce us to Granja Tara, a kind of animal refuge/ stable yard, with cats lounging in the hot dustiness of early evening and chickens clucking close by. We helped to tack up the horses (our choice to do so of course) and because my little girl Doris didn't have a lot of experience, Miriam decided to walk with us. The ride took us across to the cliff tops and along the coast in a huge circle, arriving back just as all light of the sunset faded. There were many opportunities along the way for a trot and Miriam took loads of photos as I'd forgotten my camera at the farm. The views were stunning as the sun set over the sea. The horses were well behaved and looked well cared for. All have been rescued from bad situations, so the money I had paid was very well spent. After our return, we helped put the horses in the fields for the night and fed them and then we sat together and had a cold drink. The whole experience was magical. A brilliant thing to do, a very worthy cause and we will definitely return next time. Danke Miriam xx
