Fascinating and a magnificent place to visit. Well preserved and with beautiful surroundings. The show in the museum out building was spectacular. Unfortunately only in French but one could understand the movie.

We visited the abbey whilst staying in nearby Vix. It is extremely impressive and very photogenic with the lavender gardens in the foreground. We found the site really interesting and it’s well worth a visit. We finished with a lovely lunch in the auberge opposite, which we’d also recommend. …

We visited the abbey whilst in Maillezais for the day. Combined with the Embarcadère de l’Abbaye marsh boat trip. Both are well worth the visit.

I recommend you to go for the visit at 10.30, it last around 60 minutes, and then watch the small act called Le Marin des Marais, it last around 30 minutes and finish with the 15 minutes movie. Cost for the wall visit is 7 euros (adult) This will give you the main information about the Abbaye as well as the Marais. Then, have a lunch and continue with a guided tour in the marais. It is closed by (2 minutes) from the Abbaye. There are also some pic nic areas close by.…
