In September on a sunny day, on a Thursday, what a beautiful place with extraordinary calm. The lake is beautiful. A beachfront restaurant. Possibility to rent a holiday cottage on site and even a Inn room. A great moment of calm and tranquility.

This is a pretty lake between the two villages of Murol and Chambon, which are very charming. There is an easy walk around the lake, also pedalos and limited bathing areas. It is also a good spot from which to make many excursions and bigger walks in the area of the Massif du Sancy - we used the Chamina guide to this area and found it wonderful. There is also a fantastic bakery in the village of Chambon sur Lac.

Spring or Autumn when the crowds have gone but the weather remains warm. Terrific trails around the lake. You are literally walking or if you choose to take a dip, then swimming, in a volcano. Plenty of great spots to have a picnic. We went to a local supermarket; picked up a cooked chicken and baguette and then some local Saint Nectaire cheese and i can honestly say it was one of the best 10 meals I have ever had. Photos after were hard to tell which way up they were, so clear, and often still, is the water. Parked up at the east end and went clockwise. Few more portaloos wouldn't go amiss though.

We wanted to go swimming this weekend to cool off but the water was dirty and left us perplexed. So we looked at the papers hung around and we learned that the lake had just been declared closed to swimming due to bad bacteria. So I want to warn you just in case.
Please think about your children and your pets. We saw some swimming and unfortunately they risk being sick...

Beautiful area with the lake with a beach and mountains, lots of interesting places nearby to explore. Shame our campsite nearby closed in the middle of September or we would have loved to stay longer!

A beautiful lake with different outdoor possibilities: swimming, fishing.
We had a nice walk around the lake, which you can do in about an hour. It gives varied views and is partially on wooden walkways above the water.
There were hiking trails going more uphill as well.

Pretty French glacial fed lake in the French Alps with magnificent mountain backgrounds. An area with activities if you wish or you can relax and picnic.

We were staying at a nearby campsite so decided to find the lake as it had been recommended to us. It was a very pretty place with lots to do. There is a beach area if you want to bathe, a very small baby/toddlers pool for little ones, pedalos and an inflatable aqua parc in the middle of the lake. We didnt eat here but there were cafes and restaurants nearby. We hired a pedalo for an hour which was very reasonable and then spent an hour on the inflatable aqua parc with our 6 and 7 year old son which was so much fun. My husband and I weren't so keen on going on it but it was just such a laugh, I would highly recommend it.

Quaint little lake town surrounded by beauty, history and gourmet food.
Quite the mix here. Attracts the very athletic types. Lots of people biking, running and hiking. Pretty lake attracts swimmers, sunbathers and fishermen alike. Something for all ages. Reminds me of Invermere British Columbia.
