About
Based at Laverstoke Mill in Hampshire, 15 miles from Winchester and 60 miles from London, the Bombay Sapphire Distillery showcases the care, skill and artistry behind every drop of Bombay Sapphire, and allows you to discover the flavours of the botanicals which make our gin so unique. For over 225 years, the Victorian and Georgian buildings set astride the crystal clear River Test produced bank note paper for the Bank of England and the British Empire. Now, Laverstoke Mill is a state-of-the-art sustainable distillery which produces every single drop of Bombay Sapphire gin. Please book in advance on our website & plan your journey. The closest train stations to the distillery are Overton or Whitchurch which are serviced by trains originating from London Waterloo and Salisbury. The 76 bus from Basingstoke or Andover stops outside the distillery. Links to train and bus timetables can be found on our website – visit the “Plan your Visit” page.

Perfect Christmas Present Delight at Bombay Sapphire Tour and Cocktail Making!
I gifted my parents the Bombay Sapphire Tour and Cocktail Making experience for Christmas, and it turned out to be the ultimate present! Our tour guide, Ellie, made the journey informative and fun, keeping us engaged throughout. The highlight was the hands-on cocktail-making session with Mixologist Ellie (a different Ellie), where we created the Laverstoke, Negroni, and Bees Knees cocktails. My parents were enthralled by the experience, and my dad couldn't stop talking about it all the way home! The thoughtful combination of an excellent venue, an informative tour, and the joy of crafting cocktails made this outing truly memorable. Ellie's expertise and passion added an extra layer of enjoyment. If you're looking for a unique and delightful experience, the Bombay Sapphire Tour and Cocktail Making is the perfect choice. I'm already thinking about when I can go back for another round of fun! Five stars without a doubt! It’s worth noting now that the free drinks are at the start of the tour, not at the end. This means if you have an alcoholic drink at the start, you aren’t entitled to your take home drink as a designated driver at the end. You need to choose a mocktail at the start. I hadn’t realised this because previously the free drink was at the end so I naively assumed that this would still be the case, despite the drink at the start.
Thank you for leaving us a 5-star review, we're thrilled to hear both you and your parents enjoyed your Tour and Gin Cocktail Masterclass! We'll pass on your lovely feedback to both Ellie's and we can't wait to hopefully welcome you back again soon.

    Exceeded expectations
Bombay Saphire Sunset Experience A great experience that we’d had as a gift. It was interesting and thanks to Callum our guide and bartender it was really enjoyable. We had fun! He was generous with his time and expertise and very accommodating as one of this group was driving. Food was very good too. All in all exceeded expectations. Just one aside - as we checked in the ‘greeter’ could have been more patient; as this was a gift there was a confusion over the name … we were told twice we were not on any list and got an eye roll and a ‘tut’. Happily the rest of the experience more than compensated.
Thank you for leaving us a 5-star review! We're thrilled to hear the Sunset Experience exceeded your expectations and you had a wonderful time with Calum. We'll pass your feedback on to our team. We hope to welcome you again soon.

If you like Gin, especially Bombay Sapphire, this is a must do experience
I was bought a voucher for an experience as I have always liked Bombay Sapphire Gin and when I went to book, I liked the look of the Sunset Experience. To be honest, I didn't look that closely and didn't clock that it was named after the current variation of Bombay Sapphire which has the addition of a few more botanicals. This made for a really great weekend - reception were well organised and welcoming, our host was a font of knowledge, very easygoing and did an excellent job of explaining all about Bombay Sapphire, the site, history, the wider drinks industry, the efforts to be sustainable as well, of course, as making some excellent cocktails! Surprised at how much is included in the price which might seem a lot at first but for us it was very good value for money with numerous drinks during the day (thank goodness we could stagger down the road to the Watership Down Inn!), a bottle of Bombay Sapphire Sunset edition and chocolates to take away as well of course learning all about how this particular gin is made.
Thank you for sharing your experience at Bombay Sapphire Distillery! We're delighted to hear you enjoyed the Sunset Experience. It's great to know our host made your visit memorable and we're pleased you found the experience good value for money. We hope to welcome you back soon!

The worst distillery experience I have been too. The guide was absolutely rude and treating people like we were like children at school. You can’t touch anything, Or you can’t ask any question, it’s like we were in the army ! Outside you have to keep the mask even when they give you ( you pay for it) the cocktail you have to keep your mask on. I was not happy at all, I was very stressed and didn’t enjoy my afternoon at all. I was exhausted and very uncomfortable. The guide was rude with my friend who is 65 years old, i couldn’t believe people can’t talk like that to an old lady, so the duty manager came and was also rude and took off our drink without asking. I never seen people so disrespectful. The manager arrived after that and apologised but didn’t know what to do...! Not even saying he will have a meeting with his staff about their awful behaviour.
I don’t recommend this distillery at all! You have lot of other distillery lot better and more fun ! You can’t even go inside the distillery, because of the covid, but you have to pay the full amount ! Which is unfair. You don’t see anything interesting and it’s a waste of time.

Every measure that we have in place is to ensure the safety of our guests and staff. There is a link to our coronavirus policy on the homepage of our website which shares the details of what guests can expect when visiting us – this includes the provision of and wearing of masks that you mention. We’re sorry that you missed this and it was then clarified by the manager that you spoke to. In order to reopen, we have put measures in place that are taken very seriously and this is why our team reminded you several times that masks should not be removed. We’re sorry if these reminders not to remove your mask caused you stress. Thank you for your review.

The Distillery occupies a lovely old building in an attractive location, but unfortunately the outside was all I got to see. There was a private event on at the time and the building was closed to public access despite there being no mention at all of this on the website that I specifically checked before making the journey. The website said it was open at that date and time for people to look around some parts (I was aware that full tours needed to be booked in advance.) The lady that told me it was closed was also not very friendly really or apparently sorry about it. They need to make sure the website is correct about when the site is open to ensure people don’t make wasted journeys.

The positives:

The staff were knowledgeable and doing the best they could.

The cocktails: as they were delicious.

The less positive;

You don’t really get to see anything. Because of Covid you aren’t allowed inside the distillery, so you only really get a brief background to the buildings, history of the brand and the botanicals used. The email confirmation you receive tells you not to wear heeled or open toed shoes otherwise you can’t do the Still House section of the tour; turns out you can’t do it anyway

Face coverings: absolutely, safety first, but there’s face coverings for safety purposes and there’s being obtuse. You have to wear a face covering throughout the tour. Absolutely; completely understood and supported. When we arrived we were told we absolutely could not wear our own face covering and had to wear a disposable one which was supplied. Strongly disagree with excessive disposable PPE usage when reusable face coverings are available. When asked why, there was no answer, just told to wear the disposable provided.
At the end of the ‘tour’ we sat outside (at least 5 metres from the nearest person ) for a cocktail (delicious as mentioned). We took our disposable face coverings off and were immediately told to put them back on.
When we questioned why we were told ‘this is Bacardi not the government’. Meanwhile a couple on another table sat without theirs on the entire time....

Disappointed, and if I were you I’d spend your money elsewhere.

We’re really pleased that you found your cocktail to be delicious and our staff to be knowledgeable but we’re sorry to read the rest of your review. When we reopened, we worked hard to make as few changes to our tours as possible whilst maintaining social distance and ensuring the safety of our guests and staff. We’re sorry the still house is referenced on the confirmation email, and that this caused confusion, we will get this updated so as to avoid confusion in the future whilst the measures are in place. As regards to face coverings, we appreciated your comments on the use of disposable PPE. As a manufacturing facility, we must maintain an approved standard specification of face mask to be worn by all staff and visitors to the distillery.

We attended having booked the self guided tour.
Unfortunately we visited on a very stormy day, meaning it was hammering down with rain. This meant that we could not listen to the majority of the talk points as they are located outside and have no form of covering. This made our tour very short and with no real information gained.
The glass house were nice but small. The smelling room was fun and at times pungent! Dont be fooled your selection of smells does not get analysed to give you your our designed cocktail. You have to choose from the back of the card!
The still house with tour guide was very good.
And the cocktail I selected 'sugar and spice' was delicious.

We’re pleased you enjoyed your cocktail and found the aroma profiling in order to select this cocktail to be fun. The aroma card you mentioned is used to select the preferred cocktail and the ingredients are on the reverse of the card for guests to check that the recommended cocktail is suitable for them. We’re sorry that the weather spoiled your visit – we are a heritage site with outdoor areas, many of which are not possible to cover due to the nature of the buildings. We do try to make visitors aware of the outdoor areas on our website and also in the booking information, guests are welcome to borrow umbrellas although we realise this would not have been appropriate in the recent high winds we have experienced. Thank you for your review.

I accessed this venue via Virgin experience days as my good lady is a Gin fanatic. We had the guided tour and our tour guide Louise was knowledgeable and good fun. She made what could be seen to be a pretty mundane procedure (making of gin) into a fun experience. The tactile spice room was a revelation to us and very educational.
This is a working distillery so there are steps and cobbles and plants but these add to the mystique of the brand.
Finished off with a free drink in the bar which was in itself enlightening (wasn’t aware you could make so many cocktails based on flavoured gin!), we decided to have lunch in the cafe before driving home. All the facilities here are very good and clearly showing visitors around their distillery is a pleasure for them. All staff very courteous and helpful and we really enjoyed the whole experience! Definitely recommend it if you like Gin.

Just spent the day with a couple of friends at the Bombay Sapphire distillery. It was fantastic. The guide for our tour, Louise, was well informed and very humorous with her commentary and she educated and entertained in equal measure. The cafe, bar and shop were a joy and every member of staff we encountered was helpful and well informed.

The distillery is based in some very attractive old buildings with a magnificent modern glasshouse added to highlight the plants used in the botanicals in the gin. However you really don’t see much of the actual process and the audio guide is just 6 speakers dotted around the site with short recorded commentaries. The room where you can smell the botanicals and mark a card with your preferences is quite fun, the card then indicates the type of cocktail you are likely to like and can sample in the Mill Bar.
A pleasant experience but I feel it’s quite expensive for what you get.

We’re sorry to hear that you felt your visit to be expensive for what the tour entailed. Most guests spend 1.5 to 2 hours on our Self-Discovery Experience which includes a tour of the Dakin Stillhouse to learn how our gin is made using our vapour infusion process, our Gallery which contains information about the history of gin and Bombay Sapphire, our Botanical Dry Room where you use the 22 aroma jars to select your preferred choice of complimentary cocktail, as well as the listening points that you mention which contain narrative about our site and Bombay Sapphire. If there’s something specific you feel we could do to improve, please do drop us an email to hello@bombaysapphire.com for the attention of Clare. Thank you for your review.

My wife and I took part in one of the virtual distillery tours and gin tasting.

It was brilliantly done from start to finish! The communication was excellent via email with zoom links etc and our parcel with all the miniatures and ingredients arrived well on time.

The event itself was very slick and well run with a mixture of a live tour, a pre-recorded section and a live gin tasting and cocktail making. The guides were friendly and knowledgeable.

We thoroughly enjoyed the hour experience and would highly recommend it to anyone.

Love it here, we only live down the road so have been here quite a few times however I am particularly impressed with the measures they’ve put in place for Covid19. Temperatures checked on entry, hand sanitiser everywhere, masks provided and overall felt very safe. The tour (due to coronavirus) is now guided and I felt that I learnt more than I had done previously on the self-guided route. Overall, it’s a lovely place to look around - especially if you’re a gin fan. It’s always nice to visit on a sunny day and explore. My only criticism is that on my previous visits, I’ve been able to buy more cocktails at the bar afterwards - however this has been changed due to Covid (understandable but is a shame as it’s a nice place to sit and have a few drinks in the afternoon sun). Thank you to everyone there and keeping us safe x
