We are two sixty-something beginners who wanted to learn how to navigate in the hills. Andreas was a great teacher, patient, good humoured and knowledgeable. He made the whole experience enlightening and enjoyable. Our confidence increased over the course of the day and we can now pace, time, take bearings and interpret a map. Pretty good from a standing start.... More

Simply put, this was a fantastic course that I can easily recommend for anyone wanting to learn essential mountaineering skills in winter conditions. My friend and I, as beginners, were fortunate enough to have unfettered attention with our guide, Andreas. His incredibly professional style allowed him to bestow what we now know as essential knowledge whilst maintaining a personable and... More

The first thing you learn about Andreas is that his is an expert opinion. Andreas has a lot of care and pride in what he does and I felt I was being delivered a professional instruction far beyond what I was expecting for the price. The Winter Skills Course flows naturally and there is no rigid stop and start for... More

I attended the navigational course last Sunday along with two of my friends and Cathal (the poor guy who got stuck with us women). The course was at the Cairngorms and instructed by Andreas. We had a great day the sun shone and we learnt the basics of map reading, using a compass and pacing. I would thoroughly recommend this... More

Just back from doing the 1 day navigation course in the Cairngorms – although I think our instructor referred to it as micro-navigation. We were a small group - there were 4 of us in the group plus our instructor Andreas from Unexplored Scotland. I had no knowledge of how to use a compass, but by the end of the... More

Just completed a one day navigation course up at Cairngorm with Andreas as our instructor. Myself and three ladies from Craigellachie took part in this one day introduction to navigation which included self pacing / timing techniques for determining walking distance, basic map reading, use of compass and other relevant skills required for navigation and hillwalking. Thoroughly enjoyed the course... More

Thanks for a brilliant 2 day course in Aviemore. We learnt so much and gained confidence in ice axe arrests, crampons, walking in snow, navigation, avalanche risks, not to mention learning about the nature and wildlife of the mountain. All this was with our brilliant instructor Tim, who made it fun and a very positive experience. We always seemed to have... More

Four ladies, looking for a challenge, asked Andreas to guide them up Ben Nevis, the non tourist way. We had a fantastic trip. He took us to the opposite side of the mountain to the usual route and we climbed up from the North Face car park via Corrie Liese. We met only four people on our way up, and... More

So many places to visit in Scotland you could spend a lifetime here and not see half of it. I am English and came for a weeks holiday in 2007 and 'forgot' to go home. Always think The Highlands are rather like country life was in England 50 years ago. I always think the scenery in Cornwall is wonderful but... More
