Parramatta is a large city inland from Sydney BUT well worth a full day's visit. Suggest catch the Rivercat from Circular Quay for the 1 hour scenic trip. At Parramatta (amongst other things) you can visit Old Government House (National Trust - home of the first 9 Governors of New South Wales), Hambledon Cottage (built by John MacArthur around 1824), Elizabeth Farm (built in 1793 for the early MacArthur home), Experiment Farm Cottage (National Trust - first convict to receive a land grant), the Lancer Barracks (completed in 1820), and other early buildings, museums, cemeteries and Churches - a free bus shuttle will get you round. For variety catch the train back to Sydney. Plenty of places to eat - all varieties from cafes to restaurants. PLAN YOUR TRIP AND CHECK OPENING TIMES - allow a full day!! Call or email the Visitor Information Centre to check all details - ESPECIALLY opening times!!!. If a National Trust member from overseas or interstate - CARRY YOUR CARD for free access to National Trust Properties.

The Paramatta Visitor Center is located right next to river walk and that gives it great access. The center has lot of room to accommodate travelers, it gives great load of information and shares catalogs, brouchers. Staff is friendly and helpful. There are lot of exhibits and it also has a "museum" feel to it. One can also buy some artifacts which is cool.

Lots of building work around the river bank at the moment ( May 2014) so it isolates this building. Staff very friendly and extremely knowledgeable with all info you need for your visit as things to see have limited opening times. Go downstairs and see the small exhibition about Parramatta interesting with photos & finds of the area.

Awesome resource :) Uli took the time to find out our requirements and then planned a really interesting walk around Parramatta for us. Conversation then moved on to our future plans and she helped us plan our campervan trip to Brisbane, providing maps and suggestions of routes and places we might enjoy.
There is also a shop with unique and quite beautiful objects - we have kangaroos and koalas for our christmas tree plus aboriginal art work to take home.

Very pleasant ladies indeed at this Centre, who are keen to provide maps and brochures and to discuss one's preferences and make recommendations of places to visit.
The local authorities are making splendid efforts to promote Parramatta as a place to visit and to build more and more visitor facilities, in collaboration with other authorities like the National Trust.
This is a very good place to start your visit.

Start your Parramatta visit here. A short riverside walk from the ferry landing, this centre not only has interesting history of the town to offer but the staff are excellent at telling you about local sights and possible itineraries.
