Its so close to Parramatta area, short drive which took less than 5mins.
We visited the place on Saturday afternoon around 130pm and was very busy and car park was packed. You can have BBQ, picnic, swim, canoe, paddle boat or bush walk. There are 3 different tracks you can do bush walk, She-Oak track(1.55km) is a easy walk along the lake edge, Banksia track(2.45km) is a moderate walk with uneven surfaces and you walk along the eastern edge taking in views of the lake, Lake Circuit(4.20km) is the most challenging track, some parts are a bit steep climb. We did the She-Oak track and did a bit of the Lake Circuit to explore the rainforest part. There was a cafe that you can order food, drinks and ice cream.
We enjoyed the place so much and amazed that is in the middle of Parramatta!!

A fantastic place for a walk, lunch or just to relax. There's a great 2 hour walk around the lake, you will see beautiful bush and wildlife. It's hard to believe Parramatta CBD is just down the road. Great little cafe. The area around it gets busy but most people stay near the entrance so you can get some peace by walking a short distance. You can park in the surrounding streets if there are no spots inside.

Many of our friends have talked about the Lake Parramatta walk however I haven't had a chance to go there until recently. It is indeed very convenient, not too far away from the Parramatta CBD. You can either drive to there and park your car at the entrance, or take a bus to get off at Church Street and take 15 minutes walk to there. The walking track is around the Lake Parramatta and is about 4 km long. It took us hour and a half to circuit round the track because it a bit of ups and downs. Most of the time you can see the lake next to you and people in there canoeing or paddling. Part of the track has alternate routes. You can either stick close to the lake which is a little bit rugged but still suitable for families. Or you can take the main track which is easier but longer. It is a worthwhile walk for the family with picnic facilities near the entrance. As there are lot of trees so it is quite alright even on summer days.

We walked the 4.8km lake circuit track. It was heavy going in some places with a few climbs up rocky terrain, assisted by rock-cut steps. The creek crossing was good when I went but would be tricky after rain.

Such an authentic Australian experience so close to the metropolis of Parramatta.

I saw mushrooms I had never seen before, lots of lizards and birds and flannel flowers, bottle brushes and banksias all growing in their native environment. All along the walk there are beautiful views to the lake and towering gum trees, some with possum boxes, others with native bee hives.

Local swimming hole (unguarded) and a great bush walk the whole way around the lake. Lovely place to play cricket and have a family picnic. Also a cafe on site.

Planning scout like with two 11 year olds in charge. Great walk, finished in around 2.5 hrs. Recommend taking the right Banksia track on counterclockwise look to avoid steep cliffs. Also make sure to not miss the creek crossing.

The main part of the reserve is right next to a highway and is really noisy. Not sure why you'd picnic here when Parramatta Park is so much nicer. The water looks absolutely filthy, I wouldn't want to swim here. You can't really escape the traffic noise but the other side of the lake does have great forest and the circular walk could be good. I walked in from the east along Hunts Creek, which was good but the path seems to go through Kings School and they've put up angry signs threatening facial recognition and prosecution .

A lot of work has been done to make this a really nice place to walk, swim and picnic. Swim flags and lifesavers in summer. Little cafe really good. Toilet facilities good, but could do with a shower !

I have lived in Sydney many years and sadly I never realised until today that western Sydney had such a large natural bush reserve surrounding Lake Parramatta with numerous walking tracks as well as bbq and picnic areas and a cafe.

My friend and I accidentally stumbled on this beautiful reserve while doing a general google search of walking tracks around Sydney to complete on one of our regular weekend catchups. It is literally within 10 minutes drive of central Parramatta. We parked the car around noon and opted for a 2 hour Lake walk. The terrain is a mixture of rugged to level walks through bush tracks with regular rocky elevations & depressions . Ok for most fitness levels as long as you are reasonably mobile. Definitely take a bottle of water each with you.

For most of the walk you have the lovely lake in view through the trees or through rock platforms to get uninterrupted beautiful views. Lots of natural bird life and butterflies.

I would highly recommend it. Great excuse to turn off the Netflix/tv and head for a bush walk close to the city. Stunning afternoon.

I had not been here in years. I t was a surprise to see people can now swim in the lake formed by the dam and even jump into water from the rocks. Seemed a little dangerous but adventurous.

On previous visits (years ago) we always used to go for long bush walks.

I love this place but it is rather small, and the parking places fill up quickly. So if you are going, you better go early.
