Ivana and her family are great ambassadors of Skadar National Park. Their kindness and professionalism are evident from the first contact.
We chose the 4-hour tour, and we were well inspired because time flies. A departure at 7 a.m. was ideal to benefit from the freshness and tranquility of the place.
As soon as we arrived at the mouth of the lake, Ivana offered us several variations. Starting from the north, luck smiled on us because we were able to observe Pelicans, before continuing to the other side of the lake, then ending with a swimming break.
In impeccable English, Ivana explained to us in detail what we were seeing, while sharing the culture of her country.
It is possible to book a private tour or share the boat with other people. Access to the lake requires taking a ticket for the Skadar National Park (5 euros per person). The point of sale, located 50m from the pier, opens at 7am. No need to worry, the confirmation email contains all the necessary information, including where to park your car.
As you pass through Virpazar, you will see many stalls offering boat rides. Some have misleading names like "Golden Boat" or "Monte Frog". But make no mistake, “Golden Frog” only works by reservation (email, telephone).

We enjoyed a wonderful sunrise tour. Our guide Ivana was so lovely and attentive and she knows really really much about all the birds and the landescape.
Also the booking was really uncompliceted and it was possible to do an early sunrise tour; I would really recommand that, because we were nearly alone on the lake and the light is nice.
The prizing is fair and we stayed longer than 2h (we didn’t have to pay extra) - so to sum up we can really recommand to do a tour with the golden frog!

Our day here was great and I still like to think back on it. The lake is amazing and Ivana showed us it's unique beauty in a very nice tour. We just booked the tour the evening before but the communication was very easy so everything worked out great and in my opinion the price for the tour was more than ok, too (30€ per hour for the whole boat). We were a group of three and we could kind of design the tour by ourself. Ivana told us much about the lake, the environment and the many different birds you can see there but we also had time to enjoy the nature, watch the birds and go swimming whenever we wanted to. As we did a six hours tour we had time to get lunch in a very small restaurant in which the nice old lady made lunch only for us. It was delicious.
All in all: this tour is totaly worth it and I would recommend it for anybody who wants to have an unforgettable day at Skadar Lake. :)

We found golden frog from reading other reviews who recommended them as the best operator in the area - they were right!
Booking a tour with a young child (1 years old), we had been nervous about keeping her occupied and safe on a boat. We needn’t have worried as Ivana and the boat driver were fantastic in keeping her busy with toys and snacks. In fact, everyone was so friendly and helpful with her throughout the day.
The tour itself was beautiful and Ivana really was an amazing guide. So kind, friendly and informative. She always ensured we were happy with the pace and where we were going, whilst always pointing out wildlife as it appeared.
I should also mention we had an issue with our hire car not starting after the tour and were kindly assisted by Ivana and her family. They helped speak to the help desk on the phone and even tried jump starting the car for us themselves. We couldn’t be more grateful for their help, it really made all the difference.
If you’re looking for a trustworthy family run business, without any pushy sales tactics I would highly recommend Ivana and golden boat tours. Perfect!

Great time spent in the Golden Frog boat. We really appreciated the calm, the beauty and the originality (with carpet of water lilies or small passages through reeds) of the tour (we opted for a 3 hour tour).
The kindness, honesty (we paid the right price with our children) and professionalism of the team are top notch (from making an appointment to the tour itself).

This was the second time we decided to have a trip with Golden Frog boat, and we were not disappointed.
We first heard of this family company back in 2018 when we visited Montenegro for the first time. My children were 2 and 4 years old and we did a group tour for 2h with swimming in the lake.
This time, the friendliness and dedication of the Golden Frog Team hasn't changed. We first arrived on a day when the weather decided to change our plans. Ivana was more than happy to postpone the trip as the rain was relatively heavy with no end. We have arranged then a private tour for the later date for 2 families of 4 for 4h. We had 4 adults and 4 children between age 3 and 8. Lake trip is relatively calm therefore suitable for all ages.
Good to know:
= value for money!!!! book in advance. Ivana showed huge flexibility with accommodating our needs and the price is very good for what you will get!!
= very friendly and easy to talk to
= very good English and excellent knowledge about local area and birds, Ivana not only know the English names of all birds, but she also knows where to spot them
= binoculars, bird books and drinks available on board
= parking in the village is free
= as you enter Virpazar people will try to stop you and sell you a boat trip, just say you have booked already
= little shop in the village sells loads of snacks and drinks plus freshly made sandwiches
If you planning to visit Lake Skadar, Golden Frog is who you want.

Arrival in the village of Virpazar can be a little overwhelming. With so much choice as to who takes you out on the spectacular lake it can be hard to decide. I’d recommend crossing the bridge, turning right and looking for the banner for Golden Frog. Here you’ll find a friendly welcome from Ivana, who’ll share her immense knowledge of Lake Skadar as she guides you on a tour in a traditional wooden boat with a skipper. The tour can be as long or short as you choose - but would recommend a minimum of two hours to get the benefit - its so vast anything less would barely touch the sides. Ivana will share Montenegrin history, point out the many birds and plants native to the lake - and much more. Our experience was incredible and something that’ll stay with me for a long time. Thank you Ivana!

We booked a 7hr private tour with Ivana and our captain and enjoyed every moment!
We spent some time researching the best available boat trips online prior to arriving in Virpazar and were extremely glad we did, as we were pestered by other street vendors from the moment we arrived!
We sent an online enquiry initially and received a response from Ivana within minutes. She took note of what we were interested in and offered various options to tailor the trip for us, based on this information. Communication from start to finish was excellent - prompt, professional and friendly. Ivana was just as lovely in person!
We were taken to some absolutely beautiful areas of the lake “off the beaten track” which simply could not be reached in a quick 2hr trip, which some of the other operators offer.
During much of the tour, we didn’t see another boat - just beautiful scenery & birdlife. Ivana’s guiding was excellent; she was very knowledgeable on the whole area, the bird life and general history of the surrounding area.
We were provided with binoculars, comfy cushions, drinks and snacks. We also enjoyed a delicious home cooked lunch at a little family restaurant in Karuč (not included in the boat trip cost, but extremely reasonably priced) in a beautiful setting.
The boat itself was extremely clean, tidy, well equipped & maintained. We felt very well looked after and were so delighted we booked with Ivana and her family run Golden Frog Boat.

My wife and I, and our kids aged 15 and 13, had a wonderful 3 hour tour of Lake Skadar with Golden Frog, hosted and guided by the excellent Ivana. She made every effort to personalise the tour information for each member of our family covering all kinds of topics from wildlife, the environment, politics and history. Ivana’s English was excellent, her knowledge was very broad and she was passionate about everything. She (and the Captain) knew where to find the wildlife and we spotted a very wide range of birds. The boat was comfortable and included basic refreshments - including a delicious water melon, local wine and soft drinks, information books and binoculars were also available. I highly recommend this tour to any travellers visiting the lake.

As we embarked on this boat ride with my family in tow, we were welcomed by Ivana, the effervescent co-founder and lead host of Golden Frog. Her knowledge of the region could put Wikipedia to shame! From the moment she greeted us with her trilingual prowess in English, French, and Serbian, we knew we were in for a treat.
Our captain, a mariner with an unwavering smile, made our voyage nothing short of exhilarating. He navigated through every nook and cranny of the lake, showcasing the breathtaking beauty of Skadar's diverse birdlife and the rich cultural history etched into its ancient monasteries.
While Lake Skadar cast its spell on us, Ivana regaled us with stories of the local flora and fauna. Did you know that Lake Skadar is one of Europe’s largest bird reserves? Or that its wetlands are a treasure trove of endemic species?
