Great Plants
May 2021
I have to confess that I have only seen the gardens online, though I hope to rectify that as soon as covid allows.
I have bought on line quite a few plants, all fantastic quality, beatifully packed and with reasonable p&p.
I was so incensed by one or two reviews and so admiring of your considerate replies that I felt I had to put in my four penneth.

p.s. thank you for the sweeties

Don't believe all the reviews.
Jun 2021
After reading all the wonderful reviews I'm sorry to say my experience was far from wonderful. All the reviews said how well the plants were packaged. My plant came in a very flimsy banged up box. It looked like someone sat on it. When I opened it the plant was damaged all the compost was emptied out of the pot so the plant must have been tossed around in transit. Not only that the invoice was torn and stained.
So this is my first purchase and looks like my last from this garden canter. I have phoned and left two messages at 15.10 it's now 7.30p.m and no one has called me back. So buyer beware all those reviews are not real.

Highlight of Lockdown
Feb 2021
Virtual visit - around the Ballyrobert website, cheered up a bitter cold winter morning. I was planning a cottage garden 'carpet' bed and spoilt for choice from the online plant list. Ordered plants Tuesday afternoon and was amazed to get a message the following day to say my order was packed & dispatched! It was held up for several days during transit to Devon but arrived beautifully packaged Monday morning looking as fresh as anything in my winter garden. Wish I could have really visited Ballyrobert Garden but this was highlight of my current covid lockdown ! ( I was very impressed by the biodegradable packing and enchanted by the toffee wrapped in the instruction leaflet - it was clearly designed to make me stop & read it? - and it worked!!} Proper home-grown plants from lovely proper gardeners.

Never again
Sep 2020
Had 20 minutes to 'kill' before going to lunch so called in to see what they had. My partner saw a plant but as there were no staff around decided to go for lunch and call back.
This we did some 2 hours later but suddenly were told the nursery is not open! I struggled to understand another word he was saying but explained that we had seen a plant and so he escorted us to find it and we went to pay. The lady then explained that only the gardens were open at £5 per person to which we declined.
We then said there were no notices saying it was closed and she said someone, a member of staff I presume, had moved it and not put it back.
We were made to feel like intruders and will certainly never be back.

Charming garden
Aug 2020 • Solo
Spent a delightful hour last Saturday perusing this delightful garden, lots of interest in the large borders full of herbaceous perennials and thankfully not a straight line in sight! Was great to see all plants were labelled so I could jot down any that caught my eye. A word of caution though I visited after a few days of exceptionally wet weather so the grass was quite sodden, this really encouraged me because it let me see what was possible to grow in heavy wet clay soil!
My only disappointment was that the nursery was closed due to the covid situation, I will definatlly be back in the spring to pick up some of the unusual hard to source variaties grown here!

I purchased 3 Peony plants online. They came very quickly and are well established and healthy, can’t wait to get them in and watch them flourish. Thank you. Very impressed will definitely use again. 😊

Great online purchase
May 2020
I purchased two delphinium plants on line from Ballyrobert, they were cheaper than a lot of other online gardening outlets and I wasn't expecting too much.

Updates on the order were provided, the plants arrived quickly and were both very healthy and a decent size. In a few weeks they are really growing beautifully.

Cannot recommend highly enough!
Aug 2019
Where to start....first off, I'm an occasional visitor to the gardens to glean gardening ideas and buy some plants. Not an experienced gardener by any means, but I know a great set up when I see one. The gardens as well as the huge selection of plants in stock are both hard to beat. I have been to most garden centres / plant nurseries in NI by now, and this is one place I keep coming back to again and again for rare and unusual plants. How a family and a small number of volunteers manage the gardens, website, social media and online plant sales is incredible. The extensive stock list and content on the website alone is staggering.

- a fantastic place to visit if you like a relaxing stroll in beautiful surroundings, well
worth a few pounds per person and a lot easier on the pocket than other
locations. You also help to support a local, family-run business which is always
good.

- if you like gardening / horticulture, the gardens and extensive list of plants to buy
are a real treat. Lots of great planting schemes and ideas to glean inspiration
from, the work that goes into keeping the gardens looking great is vastly under-
appreciated by many visitors I suspect and that alone is worth the few pounds
entry fee. For a plant nursery in Northern Ireland, the list of stock plants is
staggering and there are always occasional surprises when you visit too.... like a
nice Chilean Fire Bush Embothrium coccineum I stumbled upon for sale last year.

As usual, the Trip Advisor reviews are good to read through but it always attracts the attention of the odd whinger who has the sole purpose in life to complain about anything and everything, without ever having achieved much themselves. There is an old saying 'if you have nothing good to say, better to say nothing at all'....

- for those complaining about the cost of the plants, as with everything in life, you
get what you pay for. Personally I would rather pay a few pounds extra to support
a local business which is a labour of love, than buy cheaper from a business run
exclusively for commercial gain. You are paying for great plants, but also the work
that goes into producing these plants as well as the much more favourable ethos
behind the business.

- for those complaining about the cost of the entry fee, are you serious? You are
paying to visit beautifully arranged gardens in a rural setting, very relaxing and at
the end of the day it is also a family home. The reason you don't appear to pay to
gain entry to Council-owned gardens is because your tax pounds have already
paid for them!

- for those complaining about the self-service tea and scones / traybakes, you are
asked to make a donation which I think is very reasonable. Where else could you
have a cuppa and a bite to eat in return for a donation?! You can't please some
people.

- for those people complaining about there being very little of interest - have you tried opening your eyes? It is clear that this is a place for people with an appreciation of gardens, plants and outdoor spaces. I spend several hours during each visit mulling over the layout, the planting combinations, enjoying how plants change through the seasons, and how the wildlife integrates well with. many of the plants e.g. pollinating insects. With some imagination you can imagine how the same plants and planting combinations could look just as good in your own garden, and even if your not a gardener surely the colours, patterns, textures and just the peace and quiet around the gardens are there for all to see. Apparently not! Some people should have gone to Specsavers.

There will always be those few people who can't see past their own nose, want everything for nothing, have never experienced the grind to build a business of their own and sustain it through good times and bad. These people are oxygen thieves.

To the owners - keep up the good work, your labour of love is well appreciated by many!

Hi there.
Order arrived today well packaged and flowers intact. Only a couple of days after placing the order too.
Wife loved the flowers. When I order online again Ballyrobert will be my first port of call.

Thanks again
