A lovely stretch of beach just far enough away from Pattaya. Less hustle and bustle.
The beach itself was very clean on our three visits in April, we paid for two sunbeds and one umbrella , I like the sun, my Thai friend prefers the shade. The guys were really great, they even had WiFi which I don't know why, but for some reason astounded me, they provide a clothes hanger each to keep your tops crinkle free while sunbathing (a great touch).
They had a selection of beers, water and various sodas , though on the first day we stocked up at the 7/11 at the corner of Thrapaya Road , second day we didn't bother as it was colder beer from the guys we rented the sunbed from.
There's a few public toilets along the beach , costing the usual 5 baht , but they're typical Thai public ones and have seen better days, stay close to a restaurant or bar and pay the 10-20 baht they ask if you want cleanliness.
The sea was lovely and warm, though it was a tad murky in places, nothing like the reviews we had heard from certain YouTube vloggers and the beach itself was uncrowded. Loved our time there and shall definitely call back.

This is close to where I live and find it popular with the Russian tourists and a blend of other folk. The beach is nicer than Pattaya and can find a place to chill here or up to Cozy Beach slightly to the north. Food and drink options close and street adjacent is blocked to cars after 10am... more peaceful!

Dongtan Beach is situated north of the police box at the beach end of Thappaya Road, Jomtien. The beach runs from the Police box north, up to the Pattaya Water Park, just over 1 Kilometre long. There are several large 4 and 5 star hotels along the beach as well as a number of good beach restaurants and cafe/bars On the beach you will find beach concessions providing sun beds, deck chairs and umbrellas, also food and drinks at very reasonable prices. .This area is very popular with the hotel clientele as well as many tourist staying in Pattaya city and who enjoy a good quiet day at the beach. You will also find it extremely popular with retired ex pats who enjoy the good service. The central section is very popular with gay tourists and is in fact the gay beach in Pattaya. On the beach, while enjoying the comfort of your sun bed or deck chair, you can order both western and Thai meals from the nearby restaurants. They will deliver to you right on the beach for you to enjoy with a glass of wine or a cold beer or special fresh fruit drink. Most concessions serve espresso coffee as well as of full range of spirits and other drinks, including a bucket of ice and water. These you can enjoy while having a massage from a qualified beach masseur and a manicure or pedicure form the ladies on the beach. These people are all licences and qualified and wear a light blue tunic with their name and registration number printed on it. Dongtan Beach is a very pleasant way to spend a relaxing day at the beach in Pattaya.

The beach at Dongtan is a busy place, packed with side by side bars, all numbered. We frequented number 19. The staff at the bars can't help you enough & be aware that the person who runs the bar & staff looking after you can change from year to year. Be aware you are packed in side by side & can be quite intimate even with people you don't know, & if your a non smoker it can be a nightmare. The council/government have decreed beach bars shut on a Wednesday & they have also made the beach bars shrink the area they allow sun beds & deck chairs to be placed.
Dogs roam freely but don't tend to bother you & are quite timid on the whole, they mostly have collars on but I don't know who owns them & don't be surprised to find one asleep under your beach bed/chair/table. I was also aware of a poo smell round my bed area so put that down to dog excrement!
You can order food & drinks from the beach bars & the waiters/bar owners don't seem to mind you taking your own drinks. The food comes from the beach front restaurants so don't be surprised if what you order one day is different from what you order on another day as they come from different places, I found this out with some shrimp cakes I order on 2 consecutive days, one place was better than the other! there are food sellers who walk up & down all day with various fried food-Spring rolls, shrimps, crabs & fish as well as fresh fruit & sweetcorn, ice cream & cakes as well as fresh juices. Drinks from the beach bars included Chang & various shakes which were made fresh. Beds cost Bht109 & deck chairs Bht40. You pay when you want but we paid at the end of the day for all our food, drink & beds.
Tipping:- if you've had good service from a particular waiter then discreetly place your Bht tip in his or her hand & don't let the owner see. If the tip is visibly handed to the waiter or the bar owner then the waiter doesn't get the tip. There is no set % for tipping.
The sea water is murky & occasional bits of debris float past, the storm drains flush straight out to sea, I haven't seen any human waste floating in the sea myself. Locals will spit wherever so don't be surprised if you see this going on. There are touts who will be selling anything from leather goods, clothing, electrical goods & locally made jewellery, you can also get viagra type drugs & cigarettes! Bartering is the name of the game so go ahead & have fun, gesticulating is the way of communication & can be fun. They touts seem to be trustworthy, I bought a t-shirt & needed change from the Bht I'd given the seller, he went off & came back 20 mins later with my change & on the same note one seller left some beach wear they were selling with me whilst they went off to get my size if another t-shirt I wanted! Oh & ready readers are really cheap, paying about £3 a pair, I wouldn't trust the sunglasses in terms of protection.
Overall it's a good atmosphere & feels very safe with staff who really want to help. Please be respectful of the workers, some nationalities can be very rude to them!
Enjoy

I so much recommend that any visitor to Jomtien beach that they use section 15 of Dong tan beach. The guys that work on here know exactly what is meant by customer focus. We just spend 11 days in Jomtien and every day on section 15 of Dong tan beach and I can honestly say they made out holiday for us, well done guys see you next year. The other main bonus to this section is it is just to the right of the toilets and showers

Visit the beach every day and like the fact that if you find a vendor that you like you can reserve your chair for the entire stay as long as you come to the beach every day or tell them if you are nor coming so they can rent the chair to another person for that day.
The beach offer a wide selection of service where massage and mani-pedicure is the 2 approved by the city. Then you have the fresh fruit vendors and ice cream vendors that are a welcoming treat. In addition to this you have the regular vendors with a wide selection of items. If you are European and enjoy German food they have 2 ladies 5hat walk around in rage afternoon after 1 with a wide selection of cooked meat, sausages etc and if you opting to eat at the beach they have bread rolls. They also have a selection of salads including a delicious potato salad. They carry everything in cooling bags and if you buy to bring home most of the time if you ask your chair vendor if you sit in that section for a while you can keep the items in their cooler until you go home.
This year the city have upgraded the toilet facilities so they are very nice and clean, the fee for the service is 5 Baht, make sure you bring exact change since you put the money in a box and there is usually no attendant or change available.
Hope you enjoy the beach as much as I do.

Went here on a Sunday and it was quite busy even though it is low season. The promenade is finished which is nice but the surrounding gardens are still scruffy plus the dirty hard shail and roaming dogs. The sun beds were good and our owner was attentive supplying food and drink. There was a group of people doing team bonding which kept us entertained for a while.

You can call it beach, you can call it pier. Is just and urban beach dirty sand and water, but mainly is the place where all the speeds boats arrive and leave to go on daily excursions. It’s just ok if you want to wet your feet on the water, but forget about being on a paradise-type beach.

The beach is open to all whether gay or straight, no one cares and you should not care. Great people there and yes many children playing happily in the sand and having a good time. Its a very respectable beach and if you are narrow minded go some where else even though everything is above board. Maybe go to a church or temple if that is the way you are. Otherwise everyone is a great time enjoying life. Plenty of food you can order from the vendors and brought to you seating area. The beaches(Jomtien and Dongtan) are closed on Wednesdays or cleaning, but you can bring your mat and sit on the sand .the area has changed for he better , nice footpaths and a lot of trees planted for shade and the area is a heck of a lot cleaner now. I think a mixture of different people makes the place jive. Beers can be sold , but the restaurants have other drinks available for consumption. There is also a Park at the end of Dongtan beach, a play ground for kids, but there is an entrance fee as it controlled for safety Go for it..
