Stunning! Start by taking a boat trip to the Mingshi Village scenic area, and the scenery along the river with karst mountains background is awesome.
Once in the village, you walk around a waterway with great views, with great photo opportunities, plus take a photo from a hole in the sidewalk wall for a magic outlook of the water and karst mountains (see photo), enjoy the food vendors offerings along with souvenirs for sale and you must see a local dancing show in the pavilion!

We stayed one night in Mingshi rurality during our 4-day self guided tour of this part of Guangxi. This place is really easy to get to from Daxin (Check you my other review of Detian for travel details).

It might sound exaggerated, but this is one of the most beautiful places to watch a sunset in China. This is not only because of the natural beauty of the karst landscape, but also due to the quiet serenity and relatively small crowds. There is still a country calmness and charm to this place. Eating at one of the local restaurants is a culinary experience in itself. Try their open roasted duck and pork in particular, as well as their pickled root vegetables, very unique to this part of the world!

There are shuttle buses departing from Nanning Passenger Center at Beida Road to Daxin County every 20 minutes. After arriving at Daxin you’ll need to get another bus to take you to Ming-shi Countryside, or you can charter a minibus from Detian Waterfall to Ming-shi Countryside.
This scenic area has not overdeveloped like in Guilin, but the scenery is amazing. Perfect for cycling enthusiasts and nature lovers. The surrounding villages are peaceful isolated from the noisy world. The bamboo raft, mirror-like Ming-shi river, cultivating peasants and playing children by the river immerses yourself in Chinese mood.

The entrance fee RMB120/pax to the Mingshi Village Park is expensive. The scenic area is small in size and boat ride was ok; not spectacular. The park gave a man-made feeling.

The Mingshi Hotel looks like it need a coat of paint.

In the middle of vast Karst formations this area is still underdeveloped and a fantastic place to hang out for a few days and relax. Perfect for easy bike tours and some village exploration.

Stayed at Mingshi Mountain Villa and rented free bikes. Went on several trips among sugar cane fields small villages and old farms .
Better than Guilin and a lot less tourists.

Mingshi scenery is amazing and gives a real insight on the real China. The park is overrated and the 100 yuan entry fee for the boat ride is a waste of money. The free bikes they propose are not the good ones exposed but rather useless ones stacked by the security guard. My advice is to get a good bike instead of the 100 yuan entry fee and go around the mountains in the villages. The Zhuang are very friendly and welcoming. The karsts around this area are a beauty to behold.

This is one of the most beautifully preserved natural heritage in this area. The scenic boat was remarkable. The walk around the lake is just magnificent, picturesque and absolutely a photographic paradise.
