These huge roundhouses, contructed almost entirely of compacted mud and timber, is a testament to the architectural techniques of ancient times.

That they are still standing after almost 700 years is really amazing !!

This whole area is a really unique experience, not to be missed.

One of the best village you should visit. So quiet, tourists are few. It's really an original and poor village. 3 years ago, if you want to find a coca-cola here, it's impossible. Farming is still very important here. People used to make living by planting tobacco, but now this business is also difficult. So, really poor. But the architectures are kept very well.
Times seem to stop here. You will find Chinese living way in 1960s here.
Feel free to ask me more questions about Hakka Houses, I have toured many hakka villages.

The round earth buildings are a group of circular buildings with dwellings on the peryphery, while the interior is a common ground for the habitants. The ground level is dedicated for the communal functions like kitchens and so on. The buildings are made from mud and they are unique. Very recommended

This village is slightly off the beaten path and there were not many tourists when we visited. Our driver has never taken tourists here and had to ask for directions. The main structure was an impressive ring walled structure 4 storeys high.

The main building in Nanxi dates from the late XIXth century and has been converted into a hotel(of sorts).
It is large and includes a three rooms hall in the courtyard.
The appeal of staying in this hotel totally eludes me
