I had the opportunity to trek to Nachiketa Tal along with my brother on 2nd Dec,2009.It was a real adventure to trrk through the forests to reach. A solo resident sadhu offered us hot tea.We couldnt complete full parikrama due to shortage of time.I personally request all those adventurous tourists to trek to this pristine lake.Dr Swapan Sinha.

Nice place near Uttarkashi
Sep 2019 • Family
Nestled amidst the thick pine and oak forests Nachiketa Tal is a treat for the eyes to savour. This untarnished lake is situated at an elevation of 8074 ft or 2453 meters above sea level, in the east of Uttarkashi district. It is located at a distance of 131 km from Gangotri and 29 km from Uttarkashi.

Nature at its best
Apr 2018 • Friends
Its a lake 3 k.m. moderate trek from Chaurangi khal. After trekking the moment first time you see the lake you get mesmerized, lake contains fishes, on its bank
There is one hut, in which one 'Sadhu' lives. Must go if u visit UTTARKASHI, Half to full day is sufficient depends on time you have.

Walk in the Jungle
Sep 2018
A beautiful lake surrounded by forest and a small hut made by a Baba by encroaching on forest land on lake bank. At Chowrangi khal a temple is there with small eating joints famous for curd and black gram curry. Here onwards no shops/ water point exists. Route of 3 km is full of damp path with lot’s of leeches. You need to be wary of them. Leeches are more in rainy season. A nice uphill walk and ahead of lake is a nice meadow with great views if surrounding hills and small temple too. An excellent day trip .

Enjoyable trek for first timers
May 2018 • Family
Nice easy trek with not very steep climb. My kids aged 8 and 13 were able to do it easily as their first trek and enjoyed it.
It was completely quite and dense forest trek.
Though the Nachiketa taal is a lonely and slightly spooky place. dont expect any blue waters or very green surroundings, May be the situation is better after rains.
There is a Old sadhu baba who stays here all alone. You can carry few vegetables or grocery for him.

This lake is rarely visited by trekkers although it comes on the way of Gangotri Gaumukh .
Feb 2018
It is about 4kms arduous journey from Chowringee khal. It is pristine lake with crystal clear water & swarming fishes. There is only one troglodyte Sadhu who may offer you a cup of tea. You go around the lake if you have got enough time. You may also visit Bhatwari where pristine Bhagirathi rumbles & may take adip. It is pleasant & least crowdwd if you make your trip in Nov-Dec.

A high altitude lake
Oct 2017 • Friends
This is a lake atop a mountain. The trek to this lake starts from Chaurangi Hal which can be reached through Tehri or Uttarkashi. The trek is a small one and can be completed in 1 to 1.5 hours. The lake is serene. We met an ascetic staying there. Clicked few photos and enjoyed the scenic views from the mountain top.

nice lake, beautiful walk up there
Jun 2016 • Solo
the lake itself is quite small but the walk up there is calm and pretty, amidst a beautiful forest. make sure to read the story of Nachiketa from the Katha Upanishad before you go (or better: when up there). try to spot the entrance to Yama's (the god of death) cave, a little bit above the tal.
