This is a wonderful experience. There is ample parking outside the reserve gate. After entry, which is feee, there are excellent interpretive boards discussing bison.

A short uphill walk brings you to a covered viewing platform. Bison rest about 200 metres across a valley.

Binoculars and a camera with a long lens would be an advantage.

As I understand it, the zubr move around. They are not always at the first viewing area. The road continues.

European bison, or visent, never had an easy life in Bieszczady. These animals were introducend to the area in 1963/64, first to the Zwór stream valley, then to other locations in wider Bieszczady region. By 2010 population of visents reached 300. But then their worst enemy came out to light - tuberculosis. Many observed individuals had clear signs of the desease, so authorities made difficult decision to destroy many herds of visents. Now the population is being rebuilt, using visents from Białowieża, but also from herds outside Poland, to diversify the DNA code - inbreeding was the main reason for previous troubles. To show what it takes to take care of free and semi-free herds of visents local forestry office set up a show enclosure, covering 9 ha of fenced off area, where 18 animals lead their easy lifes - some of them were brought from countries such as Sweden, France and Switzerland). Car parking spaces are clearly marked on Stuposiany - Muczne road, from there short walk along the fence, with two viewing platforms. On one of the platforms one of foresters is at a hand to explain everything related to those animals - for most of the day in tourist season. And as the free herd feeds nearby , if you lucky, you might see visents on both sides of the fence, but don't worry, they are big, but not aggresive.
