We made a little detour to Baena on our Andalusia tour. We bought top-quality organic olive oil there. This olive oil is known in Germany and Switzerland in organic markets as Rapunzel oil. There is no shop. But we were given a very friendly welcome and were able to buy a few boxes of the top olive oil at a very good price. Very uncomplicated! We can only recommend it. Direct from the producer!

We highly recommend this place to everyone looking for tradition and quality. Mr Nunez de Prado spoke so fondly about the making of olive oil in a traditional manner. He showed us around. Spent time explaining the whole process of organic olive oil making. He even showed how each machine works. We then visited the room where bottles of very high quality olive oil were prepared for shipping. Each bottle has a unique number to ensure traceability.
The visite was free. We couldn't resist and bought 4 bottles of their finest production for a very reasonable price.
This place is a gem and if you are driving between Cordoba and Grenada, make sure you stop at Baena and go visit thois amazing place.

We read about this tour in Lonely Planet. It was a 35 minute drive from Cordoba and definitely worth it. The patriarch of the Family gave my family a 40 minute tour through the facilities of the 200+ year old family business. We learned a lot about the process of "making" Olive Oil" by walking through the factory from the beginning of the process all the way to hand labeling the bottles and smelling the latest batch of oil in a wine glass directly from the storage containers in the warehouse.
The added bonus is the great prices for taking home some of the best olive oil in the world. I wanted to buy another suitcase to take more home with me!!!

We went to Baena and found that it wasn't the prettiest town- it was quite dull.
However, when we found the Nunez de Prado building, it was really pretty and once we went inside Nunez de Prado himself gave us a tour of how they made olive oil, with the ancient machines. We tasted the olive oil, in a flute glass. The olive oil isn't very expensive and it's good quality.
It is a really good olive oil and I recommend that you visit.

I was traveling by bus between Cordoba and Granada and deliberately made a stop in Baena so I could visit this factory. It was a little bit of a walk from the bus station but doable. Even though I was by myself, the owner was kind enough to take me on a personal tour of the factory. He showed me the presses, the vats and other machines, as well as a video of the factory featuring his dashing younger self. Unfortunately I wasn't there during olive harvesting season, but I got a very good idea of the process through his explanations. Having made the trip I couldn't not buy the merchandise and even though I had very limited space in my suitcase I managed to fit two bottles back. Among the best extra virgin olive oil I've ever tasted.

Granted we showed up unannounced, but on our drive from Granada to Cordoba, we traveled through the olive country hoping for an English tour & olive oil tasting. Unfortunately for us, no one was available who spoke English to show us around. We didn't even see a store to buy any olive oil on the premises. It looks like a large place that handles mostly bus tours.

We stopped by here on the off chance that we could tour the facility and were given a personal tour by the owner. We learned about how olive oil is made and why they choose to go organic. We also learned that the olive trees live a very long time, there was a 500 year old tree in the courtyard. Obviously we had to buy some before we left and this is our favourite salad oil.

Excellent welcome though we just dropped in half an hour before closing time. We were given the time to see the hole factory and questions were answered. Would be interesting to see the place when after harvest when production is on, starting November.

We took a detour to visit Nunez de Prado and wished we hadn’t bothered. After wandering around the bodega, we eventually found an office and asked about a tour. A man switched on a 5- minute video for us, pointed to a couple of rooms (no real explanation of what they were) and then left us. There was no option to taste or buy the oil.

There are 3 things wrapped into one at this location--on the street with a very nice public park. We initially went to the olive processing area to get a tour of the facility and to see how olives were processed in the traditional way. The owner did a great job and was very entertaining. He showed us the presses, storage areas and the loading docks--as well as a 500 year old olive tree on the property.
After our tour of the grounds, which are beautiful, he took us to the dining area where we had a very nice meal with lots of local wine and olive oil! All of the olive oils from this most famous region are excellent and very good.
He pointed out the rooms that were available for overnight guests. We did not get to see any of them, but I know it is safe to assume that the are very nice.

We are going to visit Andalusia in November 18 - 24, 2017. Will we be able to have a tour of the facility? Someone commented the facility is closed to tours during harvest time, which is understandable to some degree.
If we are able to visit, is there a fee? Can we set up the tour (buy tickets) in advance?
Also, I understand there is an olive oil and tapas fest in November in Baena, and I cannot find any dates or information on baena website except from previous years. Could you give me dates and information or links to information. Gracias! Margarita de Estados Unidos

Hi, I am hoping to visit on 26 September with my parents - I am organising a tour of Zuheros and Ubeda for my Dad for his 80th Birthday and thought we could call in for the tour - do we need to book ? I can speak quite good Spanish so can translate if there are no English guides, thanks.
